downloading files directly to axim

Is it possible to download software (e.g. games, printing software, etc) directly from the internet to the Axim, or do they have to go to my computer first?

You can download directly. I frequently download CAB files for installation directly on my Axim. Now if I want to download software for installation and the software is only in a PC executable format, then I usually download directly to my laptop or desktop. Every once in a while, when I find one of these files, I will d/l to my Axim, but eventually have to tranfer to pc for installation.

I also shuttle files via FTP from my Axim to my office workspace and vice versa.

Thanks for the info. Now, I am a Mac user, using Missing Sync, so I wonder if that will pose any problems. I do have access to a PC at work, so I guess I could use that if need be.

one of the best resources for cab files is http://www.freecabs.de by Holger Schmidt. Check that out.

Sorry, Basil! I'm not a MAC user and have never been one, so I'm useless when it comes to advice on that platform!

I'll move this to the new MAC Forum, maybe someone knows in there.

I'm only 4 weeks into PDA ownership so probably more/better info than this out there but....

Missing Sync has a cab installer which works fine for me.
Otherwise have a look at the software tutorials under resources on this site...good explanation of exe and cab installation.
Or use Magnolia's Web Sharing guide which is under his signature.
If PC exe is only thing available then I'm afraid you'll need to load active sync onto a friendly pc and run it form there. It is very easy to do that.
Finally PocketMac has an "extractor" for PC exe files but I haven't tried it yet.

You could also email the developer (be prepared to show proof of purchase) and request that he email you the .cab directly.
