New to the PDA world and just purchased a axim x30 624MHz for my wife who is a nursing student. I'm trying to find a med software that will be useful for her during clinical and after graduation, offering drug lists, side effects, interactions ...... and so on. currently have the free drug list from epocrates but not sure to committing the subscription data base. Looking for suggestions from the experienced ! Thanks
Well, I too am a nursing student and I LOVE Pepid. Pepid.com. It has everything (in fact Dell sells it on their Healthcare site). AND you can get a free month. LOVE the program. Good luck to your wife, hope we both survive.
I think most nurses will find the free epocrates more than adequate. I wouldn't generally reccommend the subscription version unless she is studying to be a nurse practitioner.
Hi, nursing student here too. I currently use the davis drug guide for nurses. That will be one of the best drug guide you'll ever use. Goodluck to your wife and her new pda, tell her to be careful at the hospital, i've already lost one pda.

I am in pharmacy school and working on getting my PDA all ready to go for my fourth year clerkships this June. I haven't really used any of the applications yet but I did just post a list of different medical PDA sites from my university. It might be useful.
I am a pharmacy student and use the free Epocrates version, lexicomp suite, and MobileMicromedix. Lexicomp is great because it includes 15 databases and works well from an SD or CF card. In addition to drug information it includes Stedman's medical dictionary, Griffith's five minute consult, and useful medical abbreviations. The only drawback is that it is expensive. If your wife is a student she will probably qualify for a discount. MobileMicromedix is also pretty good and we get free access to it through my school.
I have been using my Axim at work since January of this year and I love it. There will be other small programs that will be useful to her as she progresses in school.
I am a RN for about 6yrs and work in the ICU, I also do alot of time in the ED.
I am in a nursing RN to BSN program at Drexel and one of the courses, Nursing Informatics, had us buy a pda. Part of the course was learning how to use the pda including installing and using programs in practice. Davis Drug Guide and RN Labs were programs we had to buy. I would recommend these products through Skyscape to anyone. There are also some free ones on their site. Every time I sinc, Skyscape updates any products that I have from them.
Your wife being a nursing student and just learning drugs is a big ordeal. What an awesome gift for her! Make sure she learns how to use it and maybe incorporate it into her life using the “calendar” and “to do” features. Good Luck.

PS: if you send me a private message I might be able to get you a coupon for Davis Drug Guide
