Never had any problems myself.

I usualy ask the clerk at the front to take off the lock mechanism before I purchase them so I can see if the disk has any scratches on it.

I've had it happen, but as suggested by Howard and JP, there is usually a visible boo boo on the dvd.

Blockbuster in Canada has a 30 day warranty. Not sure if they have that down there. Might be able to get it replaced.

Thanks. After seeing others get burned by this I figured I would save myself some trouble and inspect the merchandise before leaving the store.

I have seen advertized a device that allow you to polish old Cd and DVD so the scratches do not affect the viewing or listening. Sorry I can't remember exactly the name though .

Tabten5, good one

The Skip Doctor is one that does a good job. Can be found at stores like Best Buy and Circuit city for around $30.
