We netted about USD 150...about enough for gas for two months for two cars! OUCH!

One of you said this tax system is whacked....and boy are you right!!!!!! It took two days to get ours done even with the computer!!!!! The whole process is far far too stressful and complex!!!!

We came out about even...I was soooo excited not to owe like we normally do that we went out lastnight and I forgot all about the state and to actually file the federal. Will do that this morning.

In Canada do you all file seperate returns for the husband & wife?

On the vast majority of my salary, I pay 40% tax. Yes, this is rather painful. On average, I think I work one week in three for free.

Yep - but its very easy. This is the third country I've paid tax in and by far it's the simplest and quickest. Even though we do have this silly provincial and federal thing. Took me no more than on hour to file it, filed it electronically and had my refund within 2-3 weeks.

For Arkansas state taxes we have a category called, "married filing separately on the same form", which yields a much different result from "joint filing" or "married filing on separate forms."

It's all a computer based process for us. So we upload them to the government in separate files, but there are concessions made with us being married. It's just automagic. I guess doing it on paper would be much more thought.

In Canada we can file seperately or together....my tax man says better to file together rather than seperate.

Yeah, since moving out here in January, I've noticed Arkansas is VERY different (and strange) in the way they do things as compared to other states' governments.

I don't have to pay taxes yet, but Howard is right about the Canadian Tax system being that effeciant. That and you can also get your tax return in Maple Syrup, Beaver Tail and Anne Murray CD's!

You all are falling for the trick... don't look at your "refund" to see how you made out. Look at how much was drained by Federal/State after any refund. I "net" paid $22K after my refund.

It's no wonder I fill in "Taxpayer" anymore when someone asks for my occupation.

LOL....especially those paying 40% that's crazy.

How does one get a $5,000 or $6,000 refund??
