New Video Game Console Help

So, I have been looking at buying a new console (currently I have a Dreamcast and PS2) and I had been looking at the PSP. I thought it looked like something new and interesting, but then after the price seemed very high to me, and the problems that even some of my friends have been having with them (dead pixels, button issues, etc) plus that high price tag and games not as good as I thought they would be I put it to the back of my mind.

Then I started looking at the Xbox, mainly I would get it just for Halo/2 and Xbox live. Probably worth it in itself :approve:

But then comes the dilema, I have now seen that it looks like the PS3 and Xbox 360 (new xbox) will be announced officially May 16th. This is comming from other sites and it is directly from sony and microsoft.

Now I am wondering if I should wait a month and see what its all about (a month seems like along time) or if I should just get the Xbox and halo2 and be done with it

I have the worry that the new xbox and PS3 will be buggy in the beginning plus very expensive (new consoles always are). But who knows as pretty much everythign is rumours.

Anyone have any input or info on the Xbox 360 or PS3? I know its pretty much all rumours, but if you have any really good input or info it would be much appreciated :approve:

I wouldn't worry about the new Xbox or PS being buggy. Consoles tend to be MUCH more stable than any other gaming platform. Especialy compared to a PC.

If you look at the trends of the last few console releases then you should put in preorders for two or three of these, but them up front and sell two of them for a profit on ebay. You can then recover some of your costs on the unit you will keep. :D

now after more research it looks like that is just the preview in may, the real release will be more like November

And yes new consoles can be stable, but also have bugs, the old version xboxs and ps2s have their share of problems (xbox dirty disk errors, ps2 slow load times)

The XBox is really cheap right now, and there are a lot of good games for it (which I wouldn't have said a year ago). It's also easy to mod, so even if you end up getting the 360 or PS3, you can still use the XBox for emulation of every system imaginable and the excellent XBox Media Center.

You forgot to mention the Gamecube, which is my favorite console of the current generation (although the XBox has moved into a very close 2nd, which again I wouldn't have said a year ago). IMO Metroid Prime/Metroid Prime 2 are reason enough to drop the $99 on it.

Better yet, get both. It would still be cheaper than what the PS3 and 360 will be selling for. :approve:

It all depends on how important it is for you to have the latest and greatest thing.

Right now, you can get some killer Xbox and PS2 titles for $20 new.. and they're still making games for it. Even if you do wait until November, the prices are going to be very high, and it's doubtful there's going to be a killer launch title.

Also remember, that the Xbox is said NOT to be backwards compatible.. so Halo might not even work with it.

One thing to consider too...even when the next versions are released, the initial game line-up is usually pretty weak the first little while. Also, you pay a premium to buy the console when it is first released. The xbox is currently about a third of what I paid for it when I bought it at release.
