I am trying to find a good Axim-Cell link so I can start my microwave when I turn on my street so my left-over chinese cuisine will be hot when I walk in the door. Here is my microwave/fridge Just kidding!
OK, let me ask this. IF its a microwave, is it really that imperative to save what, 4-5 minutes to pull a meal from the fridge, place it in the microwave. I mean, by the time I finish pulling out my plate, pouring my drink and washing my hands, my meal is already cooked. How much time am I really going to save by telling it to cook over the internet vs walking my arse to the kitchen and pushing buttons myself. Wasn't the microwave a time saver in the kitchen vs conventional ovens and stoves?
Now we are trying to save 3 mins for the popcorn to pop just for not walking over to it?
Ok age check... Who here has ever had Jiffy-Pop or popcorn made in on the stove? Am I getting that damned old?
I used to know someone that wired his kettle so that it would turn on when he opened his garage door. That way it was boiling when he got in the house.

Yup, you're getting that old and I'm right there with ya. I remember my Mom making popcorn on the stove and then she showed up one day with the coolest new thing...Jiffy-Pop !
Man, ya just sat there and watched that big silver dome grow & grow...and secretly hoped that it would explode in a shower of popcorn. :D
Yup, I agree that's wasting bandwidth by turning on your nuker while pulling into your driveway. Now, if somebody came up with a button my dog could push to notify me he wanted to... well... GO
and I could push a button to let him out while I was at work (and have a device to throw a newspaper if he barks at passers-by) then that I would buy...
Chris...
Another Age Check. Put up your electronic hands if you've every written code in Assembler & COBOL & Fortran...
"Another Age Check. Put up your electronic hands if you've every written code in Assembler & COBOL & Fortran..."
Now that hurt! Ok, my hand is up.
And for bandwidth use, how about the dorm rats in MIT who put the soda machine on the first floor on the 'net so that they could see if Dr. Pepper was in and cold before walking down to the machine? Ingenious and lazy. My daddy always said if you wanted it done right, quick and cheap, hire an honest, lazy, smart person!

Hey now, some of us "young-uns" even still have to write stuff in COBOL sometimes. :) Sometimes its just not cost efficient enough for a business to convert old legacy systems!
As for the Jiffy Pop, I'm only 20 and I even remember that stuff from my childhood days. People find a way to make me feel old even though I'm young. :p
Another old timer here and yes I have and still in some cases code in Assembler & COBOL & Fortran, due to has noted early some of my customers have old Legacy systems.
And I still buy and pop Jiffy Pop...
How many remember round 3420 tape reels? and how about punch cards?

Okay, now you're getting before my time! :) I've heard of 3420 reels, and actually held/messed with a punch card a long time ago...but never used either.

Yup & yup. Used punch cards all through High School. We only has one card station for typing and reading. I coded most with the trusty HB pencil (an all-evening project for even a small prog), waited in line for 1/2 hour to have the cards read and transmitted to the U of Manitoba, waited another 1/2 hours for the results to print, and then spend the next evening manually debugging.
(that was, of course after walking uphill both ways to/from school in 20 ft of snow...yadaa...yadda...kids got it so EZ these days)
Yes, I remember Dad popping popcorn on the gas stove. Mom brought home this revolutionary new product...Jiffy Pop. Dad declared it "ok in a pinch, but the real stuff is better." Funny, I thought Jiffy Pop was real popcorn.......
Did code in Fortran and Cobol.
First programming I ever learned was the 1's and 0's of IBM keypunch....early '60's.
So we've been geeks all our lives...........and I AM older than DIRT!!!
