PocketMac 3.44 Pro & Mac OS X Tiger

Hello Mac & Axim users!

Does anyone know how Tiger will impact PocketMac? I got an email/advertisement earlier in the week from Pocket Mac announcing that they plan to issue a (free) upgrade in mid-May. I sent them an email in return asking if this is just an upgrade to take advantages of changes in Tiger of if it is an upgrade to make Pocket Mac usable with Tiger. To date I haven't gotten a response.

Are any of you familiar enough with Tiger to know if we will have problems before the upgrade? Are there any programers out there who have Tiger already (to update programs they produce) and use Pocket Mac who can advise?

The current version is 3.5 (Tiger fix) and 3.5.1 (Tiger 10.4.1. fix).

Well it would be if it worked. I am having one hell of a job talking to the technical staff at Pocketmac as I can't get it to Sync with iCal nor iCalTasks, but its ok with Entourage 2004, but then Spotlight doesnt work with Entourage!

Guess I cant have everything, but once in a while would be nice

My understanding is that Entourage doesn't work with spotlight in any case.

Have you checked your preferences in PocketMac 3.5.1? It seems to me from prefrences that you have to change which programs you want to synch.

In terms of synching Entourage and ical etc, I recalling seeing a tool on the Mac Downloads page (on the Apple sight, I think) to synch those two. Maybe you would synch the Axim with Entourage and then use that tool.

If anyone has any information on getting Spotlight to search content in Entourage, please post!

I know Entourage doesnt work with Spotlight, thats why I'm trying to get iCal to work with PocketMac :) . Thanks for the help on Syncing Entourage with iCal I'm sure there is a Automator script out there somewhere.

If you saw Steve Jobs keynote speach a few days back the head of Microsofts Mac business unit stated that they are working on updating Office 2004 for OS 10.4 (which will include Stoplight compatibility I hope), but as it will require a major re-write of Entourage it won't be any time soon is my guess.

Interesting. I can sync with Entoiurage ok but only via USB (which resets the Mac on withdrawing the USB), but not via Bluetooth. PocketMac trying to sort out Bluetooth but with no success

I've come to the conclusion PocketMac is junk....... taking me 2 months, three revisions and God knows how may e-mails to their "technical help", but they really haven't a clue.

Fingers crossed that the Tiger version of The Missing Sync works.

And syncing was so smooth on the pc.......................... maybe the darksides not so dark after all !!.

Yes, its still not working as advertised, even with the Tiger 3.51 revision.

I'm using PocketMac 3.51 lite and while it "works", it's a hassle to get things to sync. I'm doing it via bluetooth. Seems the only way I can get it to work is:

1) Launch Isync. Click on PocketPC icon.
2) On my Axim, go to bluetooth manager and click activesync via bluetooth
3) Now, in pocketmac, it sees my Axim, and I can click syncronize.

It does my calender & address book. So while it does what I want, it's just the hoops I have to jump through to get it to work. Also, I'm noticing that sometime I have to soft reset my Axim, because the bluetooth manager won't come up. Weird.

Maybe I'll try Missing Sync.

I purchased Missing Sync to sync my DELL X5 and iBook running Tiger 10.4.2 after sometime trying to get help from Missing Sync customer service I gave up and found a fix in their own newsgroup pages which finally enabled sync with iCal (worked out of the box with Entourage!).

The soultion was to completely delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local and reinstall Missing Sync. Thereafter its worked 100%. Guess PocketMac would now work as well as it had the same problem which was OS related not down to either programs. :rolling:

Of the two Missing Sync (v2.0) is easier to use, and quicker at making the initial connection (via USB at least). PocketMac (3.51) even working was a pain. And as with Missing Sync , the staff at PocketMac were unable to provide a solution to my iCal syncing problems preferring to ignore my e-mails after an initial attempted at off the shelf fixes.

Bottom line these guys should checkout their own newsgroups.

But its working now till the next Apple OS upgrade
