I've tried about a dozen times trying to apply the A03 update w/ VPC 7.0.1 running WinXP. No luck, always hangs at hangshaking and results in a hard reset. I'm curious if anyone has successfully done this? I'm thinking it's a problem that comes with emulation. I find it odd though, that Active Sync works yet the ROM update doesn't. Any feedback would be welcomed.

The ROM updater does not strictly use ActiveSync... It launches a separate updater program, and the PPC goes into some weird update mode (looks like it exits the OS alltogether) before downloading and applying the new ROM. It wouldn't suprise me all that much if it was incompatible with VPC, unfortunate as that may be for us Mac users. (That being said, I can't say for sure that it can't be made to work -- I personally used a PC at work to apply A03, since I don't even own a copy of VPC to try it on first.)

^VPC really sucks and all other programs like ie guest pc etc, I also use a PC at my work to apply the ROM updates cause VPC takes way too long and half the time fails to work anyways, my suggestion use a PC to do it whether it be a yours, a friends, or a work computer cause VPC isn't worth wasting time over.

My take is that its more of a timeout issue... ie. it takes too long for the ~30M image to xfer.... I've seen other "regular" installs (of apps) fail for seemingly this reason too.

For something as serious as a ROM upgrade (ie if it were to fail), I just find a PC and apply the update in guest mode.
