For those of you lucky enough to work out of your home... HOW THE HECK DO YOU DO IT??? Have you tried to get information off the internet on working from home? All I get is a buttload of scam websites, and is angers me

Where can I find some reliable information?

It depends on what you do. I for instance have a ton of conference calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I usually work from home those days, as I can terminal service into my network via vpn and manage resources/handle issues on a small scale etc.... Since I can pretty much access everything from home, the only time there is conflict is when a piece of hardware needs "hands on".....

I've found the magazine Home Office Computing helpful if it is still published.

Does working from home include dishes, laundry and staying home with my 5 kids? :) My hubby works from home occasionally. He is part of the global network support team for a local pharmaceutical company. He just brings him laptop home, sits in the easy chair and works. Don't forget the phone for the 50 million calls he gets ;)

I work from home fairly often. I also travel alot. I have a Cube in the office that is empty most of the time. I visit to pick up mail once in a while. I work for a Machine Tool Importer and I travel to go to Trade Shows, Customer Training and Support, Go on sales calls with Distributor Salesmen, and to tour Machine Builders. I still have to turn in reports and do my admin. work where ever I am. So I basically work Everywhere I am!

I work from home everyother Wednesday and every Friday, which is great. I work for a telecommunications company _erizon, that pushes telecommuting. It all depends on the company you work for and what you do there. My cousin's wife in Denver works from home as a customer service rep. They supply and pay for their DSL line and computer and telephone gear. If I can get the web address, I'll post it.

I work from home everyday as a Field Service Engineer and respond to customers that call me direct should they need on site support/repair/maintenance. Works good for me and I hope it lasts a really long time too. Good luck...

Ciao,

Ron

I think you're going about it backwards. Look for a job with a regular company (not 'work at home') that will allow you to work at home. Those "earn zillions working at home!!!!" are all scams, whereas a surprising number of actual companies have no problem with you working at least part of the time at home as long as you produce.

I agree with Quinn. Start out in the office and set yourself up for at home work. I convinced my company how much more efficient it would be if I used VPN and worked from home. They bought it. It may not be alot more efficient, but it is alot more fun. B)

I've worked out of the house for several years now and wouldn't think of getting a job where I would have to show up at the same building, and see the same people, and go to the same 'cube'. Quinn has it right though, see if your employer will let you work remotely...
