I guess my question is ... if someone wanted to steal the CD out of the jewel box, repackage and then return as new, unopened, why would they bother to put a labeled CD in there? Just put in a blank CD and reseal it.

Then, what's the purpose of the gash? My guess with that is that they didn't waste a good CD, but had a faulty one laying around and just slapped the label on it.

My experience with games and software is that almost all retail outlets they will take returns on open items provided it's exchanged for the exact same item.

My guess would be so that it passed a quick inspection by the customer service people when it was returned if they decided to open it up.

After reading your experience, I have decided that a change of mind toward Target is in order....they did well by you in this matter....maybe you should write them a brief letter commending their acitons!

This is why now you see alot of products wrapped in the hard, heat sealed plastic that you need skilsaw to get it opened. Once opened theses cannot be resealed in any way.

I'll "ditto" that. I bought one of the X30s from Sams Club, and purchased a 1GB Lexar Card and a memory card reader at the same time (not for me, but for a small music publishing company that wants to quickly and cheaply create pronounciation files for songs in Czech). That Sams Club Lexar was literally in 4 layers of plastic, making the entire card about a foot wide and about two feet tall. They had to ship it separately, in a LARGE box to be able to fit the card.

I understand the need to make these things hard to steal...but when they are online purchases, you think they could go another route...
