AIM virus's

I have been getting lots of IM's with messages like "Lol, look at this" or suck linking to a .com in which im guessing idiots click it, and then the virus infects them and they start sending that message to other people, etc. I think i read about this a long time ago, but i can't remember. Anyone else getting these messages?

Firstly, I don't use AIM anymore, so no. But even when I was still using AIM, I had it set to only accept messages from people that I knew and had approved to be on my buddy list. This kept the spam from coming through.

I used to get them now and then on MSN, still do but I hardly ever do.

Either the other person, would send a .pif over MSN File Transfer or would give you a link to a virus, both claiming to be a picture.

Either way if your savvy enough you can prevent it from happening if you just don't click the link.

Yeah there is a new one people seem to be enjoying
one that goes along the lines of "check out my pictures here"
it comes from people you know so its difficult to tell and well I know it was someserver.com/picture.pif or something. I was using my x50 so when I clicked it, PIE opened it up and it was an executable with all that garbled fun text.

Dunno what it could do..
I know there used to be some that kept changing your info.. that wasnt fun to kill... but most will send a message out to everyone on yoru buddy list when you click it. -_- fun... especially when they usually ask you tech questions.

LMAO.... because we all know how few SPAM messages ever pop up using IRC. :p

Really though, I do like IRC and have used it since the early '90s, but over the past 4-5 years or so there are numerous amounts of random SPAM messages (some containing links to a virus) that pop up on IRC as well.
