Norton Antivirus Question

Everyone has been so helpful on this site, so I thought someone might be able to help me with my non axim computer problem. When I conduct a virus scan of my computer, it finds adware which I would like to delete. When I utilize the fix/delete tool it acts like it's going to delete the files and then one by one it says delete failed. Are there steps I can follow to remove these pests from my computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using Ad-Aware and/or Spybot instead? Both are free and work very well (faster than NAV).

Agreement here. I'd also reccomend using a 3rd party firewall (such as zone alarm) during the scans with NAV - I have been infected that way.

Another good anti-malware program is spy sweeper-last time i used it, their free trial ony had one update, but if you uninstalled it and reinstalled it you got another one again!

If none of those work, try disabling system restore and havinga nother go. I had a couple of viruses that wrote themselves into the system restore files (which nothing can touch as windows stops it) which were a pain to get rid of.

I run Ad-Aware on home computers
and Spybot at work (due to the licensing conditions involved)

You can do the old fashion way and do a computer search for the file name one by one and delete the file. You could also try Compusa to get spybot I was lucky and i got it for $20.00 (usually $30-40.)

Hope it helps,
Justin

Disable System Restore, and then boot into safe mode and re-run the scan, that should allow Norton to remove the item. You can also try stopping the process that is using the .exe, or dll and then let Norton remove the item.

If you click on the adwares name, it should take you to the Symantic site, which will provide you with specific instructions on how to remove the spyware.

Good luck.
