Medical software

I use Handango alot because it has a ton of software and most has a free trial period. This allows you to see if you can really use the program in the first place. They also have links to many Medical Software Developers. The best software I have found is what works best on your PDA, works for your Specialty and is easiest to use. The "try before you buy" idea is great and found often in the PDA World. Good Luck!!!!!!

-handy ref- medical references (www.handymed.com)
-MERCK MEDICUS- includes subscriptions to medical journals, the merck manual, reuters Medical news highlights and a great medical diagnostics test reference guide TOTALLY FREE! plus is has alot of great material on the website. (www.MERCKMEDICUS.com)
-PEPID- not a free program but has lots of free trial versions that will keep you using it until you get the $125 for the program. it has drug reference and medical encyclopedia. (excellent program found at www.pepid.com)
-pocket stroke- Good as a reference for someone who does not deal will strokes too often. FREE!
-Shots 2005- a simple program that helps you understand scheduled vaccinations and when they should be given.. FREE
-THeraDoc- all you could ever want to know about antibitotics but where embarassed to ask... also found on www.MERCKMEDICUS.com for FREE!!!

PS- I bought epocrates and had nothing but troubles with it locking up and not synching propperly... FORGET IT!... Try pepid..
GOod luck.

I'm a bit late tuning in, but let me add to the list of quality free medical PDA software:

Diagnosaurus (differential diagnosis tool): http://books.mcgraw-hill.com/medical...rus/index.html

eMedicine Disaster and Trauma eBook: http://www.emedicine.com/specials/

JournalToGo (allows you to get abstracts of recent literature on your PDA): http://journaltogo.com/

GAPS (anesthesiology program): http://gaps.anest.ufl.edu/

Hope this helps.

So you'll have 100-200k in loans, what's a couple hundred bucks more for medical books?

Think of it this way - you're going to need to buy these books anyways if you want to do well - paperback or electronic, they're roughly the same price.

Skyscape has some very popular paperback books in electronic format (the whole 5 minute series, Washington Manual, Harriet Lane's, Redbook, etc. - all very useful for students and practitioners), and you can demo the limited version to make sure it works on your handheld before you buy. They have volume discounts too when you buy several books together.

Sanford Guide

I'm considering purchasing the Sanford Guide: I gather people like the PDA version.

I am running the full VGA high resolution on my Axim x51v. Some programs resize and look good (epocrates, mobile merck medicus, for example) others end up being displayed in the upper-left hand quarter of the screen (annoying, to say the least).

My question is this: anyone have experience with the Sanford Guide running on an Axim x51v (or other VGA-enabled PDA) at the full, native VGA resolution? Does it display correctly?

Thanks,

--Tristan

Sanford Guide 2007 is VGA aware and looks great on an x51v. I am not running full VGA on my x51v though - just the native VGA, so no idea how small it will look with the VGA hack. The 2006 version didn't look as good.

Thanks to freebies ePocrates, TheraDoc, and Diagnosaurus, I'm wondering why I had to memorize half the stuff I did.
