iPod, iTunes, ICar, iVillage, iThis, iThat: What is the "i"?????????
i have tried to search the internet but have not come up with anything. Can anyone tell me what the "i" is for? Who came up with the "i". And why you think its so popular?

It all comes from marketing of the late 90's when prefacing things with i or e made them seem more "techie". Once the tech bubble burst the prefacing wasn't as prevalent, companies that were already using i or e stuck with for branding purposes. It's all about branding, marketng, focus groups and us geeks that buy things with abbrievated prefaces.

It stands for "illiteratus". It's Latin. Sums up the "Apple Hater" bunch quite well. Although there are actually some people who are both literate with Apple products -and- don't like them, the vast majority are strong devotees to the principles of Apple illiteracy.

Spent way too much time looking through sites and finally found an apple forum (sadly had to register to utilize their search function). But it looks like it stands for internet. Even on the apple forums, they were upset at the use i long, long ago.
