I've got some kind of insomnia. I've got what I like to call "controlled narcolepsy" -- I have the ability to put myself to sleep. Anywhere, anytime, I can be dead asleep within five minutes. My problem is STAYING asleep. I haven't slept for more than a two hour stretch in almost six months (it is medical related, though -- and getting better!!)
For an alarm, I use three alarms on my Axim -- starting softly, then getting louder and louder. Then alarm 2 goes off. Blaring something quite annoying. After a few minutes, alarm three goes off. Playing the end of the "Weird Al" tape, "VHF" where cars are crashing, explosions are going off, trains crashing, cash registers ringing, telephones going off, metal crushing, and other loud obnoxious sounds.
After that, my cell phone alarm goes off. If I am not up by the time the cell phone goes off -- I have no business being awake.
I used to have trouble with that, but my brother got me a iMac Alarm Clock back in 7th grade, it shrieks loudly and was the first alarm clock that ever did the job for me. I have a sony clock radio which buzzes and also works well, with a radio alarm seperate
so I have the iMac go off at 7:02, the Buzzer at 7:04 and the Radio at 7:05, multiple ones get be up better, and it's redundant if i forget to set one of them.
either way, I always wake up at 6:59 on a school day anyway.
thanks for all the info, i do go to bed at the same time each day(roughly same time-11:00). I think its my work. i work from 7am to about 9-10pm. i get the recommended 7 hours of sleep most of the time. I just dont get it(sleeping problem).
It sounds to me like your biological rhythms on the activity side are overextended....you may be one of the people who naturally needs 9 hours sleep per night not 7....I know that it takes about 7 to 8 hours for the brain's neurotransmitters to be replenished each day (especially after a mentally taxing day!) and this is why students should not try "all night study sessions" just before a test.....you need the neurotransmitters to be there so you are able to associate, recall and apply information you did learn to the test at hand!
Hope this helps....but if not you may consider seeking the intervention of a doctor specializing in sleep related disorders....Yes, I am serious and I know it works....Good luck!

However, I'm usually up before my alarms.
A student of mine had this sort of trouble and ever since she has been taking about 1200 mg of calcium per night she no longer has much trouble getting to and staying asleep all night......

i can usually only sleep like 7-8 hours before my body forces me to get up. i dont know its like once im recharged i cant sleep anymore. If i sleep more than 9+ hours its like if i only sleep 3-4 hours, really really tired, groggy, sleepy.

Set about 3 different alarms in various places around your room, with at least one of them (preferably the loudest and most obnoxious one) being AWAY from your bed so that you actually have to get up to turn it off. If you have to walk all the way across the room to turn it off anyhow, it makes it a whole lot easier to get up out of your bed.

I don't sleep more than an hour ar a tim art the most. I wake up all night long. This leaves me tired most of the time.
Look up alarm clocks for hearing impaired people. They even have clocks that shake the bed! I think the site I saw this was marlynelectronics, but search first! The extra loud alarm clocks will probably be enough.
i dont know if getting a louder alarm clock is gonna help. ive already gotten a louder one(a little bit louder than old one). i talked to this guy and he said that i am probly subconciously blocking out the sound of the alarm. i think i need the bed shaker.
i could just use one of those 25 cent beds at hotels, the ones that shake.
