A student of mine had this sort of trouble and ever since she has been taking about 1200 mg of calcium per night she no longer has much trouble getting to and staying asleep all night......
Mine is related to diabetes. About five weeks ago, I went into what is called "diabetic ketoacidosis". I've been living my life normally. Doing normal things. The past five or six months, I started having problems keeping myself hydrated (always thirsty) and peeing all the time. I figured it was just one leading to the other. I'm walking to my car, pass out, stand back up, and collapse again. At the hospital, they said that my blood/gluclose level was 1300. You're supossed to go into a coma around 700 to 800. Between 900 and 950 you're dead. So, I spent some time in the hospital (first time ever in a hospital) and I'm apparently a type 1 diabetic now that has to take between 5 and 8 shots a day (depending on how long I'm awake).
This is the cause of my insomnia. The doctors said it'll take at least six months for my body to "reset itself". So... I just deal with it. I do, however, get free medical care. According to the doctors, I'm a medical anomoly. I'm 32 years old, and apparently for anybody over the age of 23-25 to get this is just simply unheard of. So, the Emory Reasearch Center here in Atlanta LOVES me!
I just have to deal with it, and give it time. My sleep patterns will get back to 'normal'.
Probably too much information there... heh. o-well
Guess I should (but I won't) crosspost this to the "Should Know" thread. :)

I have just recently been very dehydrated(I also live in the atl metro area:gwinnett and like you know it has been very hot the last week) due to the weather and work(inside of my work it was probly 10degrees hotter than outside{maybe like 100degrees}), i wonder if this has any factor in it. but i dont have diabeties

The whole thing with me started around my birthday in early March. Just kept escalating until I went unconscious on May 2nd.
After my very first dose of insulin (via two small bags on my IV) -- I noticed I wasn't thirsty, nor did I have to go to the bathroom.
I wish I could say mine was weather related. No idea why I got it. Not even cancer would trigger this.
I'm just **VERY** thankful that I don't have allergies. I'm glad we're past the season of The Yellow Fog.
take care of yourself xanlexian, i knew someone with type1 and thats a serious condition. also my father has type2. i test myself with his poker thing like 3-5 times a week, so far im in the clear. i need to go to the doc to see if i have diabeties.
okay i have to get up early tommorow so ill post if i woke up or slept through the alarm.
night all, good dreams(i hope to dream of spending the night at gate's multi-mill mansion playing with all his gadgets)

I, too, was just diagnosed with the big "D". Won't know which type 'til I see the Doc on Tuesday.
I suspected I was since I was exhibiting some of the symptoms above. So I went in for my "40,000 mile check-up" and the Doc's office called the next day confirming and told me to watch what I eat 'til my follow-up appointment on 6/21.
I'm fully expecting to be scheduled for more "invasive" tests in the near future. (can you say Prostate?)
.....I'm so excited!............not!

Evidently sound isn't enough for you. Try light. The body uses light in a subconscious way to tell time. I've noticed that when I close the curtains and make my room dark, I can sleep forever because my body still thinks it's early morning.
Open your curtains. If that doesn't work or you don't have enough light, consider either leaving the lights on when you go to bed or getting something that will automatically turn a light on at some time, and have it aim at your face.

- Get the bed shaker, but put the switch to turn it off on the other side of the room so you have to get up to turn it off
- Get Strobe lights attatched to your bed that will flash around (somewhat slowly to prevent sezuires) to give your brain the light/dark sensation, maybe that will work.
- Get a puppy that will wake you up to get fed.
- Better yet...find a friend who has a baby/toddler/child and borrow them. There is a %100 percent guaruntee rate that they will wake you up at the hiney-crack of dawn, want to eat, want to watch cartoons, want to go swimming (WHEN THE SUN IS NOT UP!) need you to wipe them after going to the bathroom, or deciding they are old enough to make popcorn at 5:30am and set the microwave on fire. *twitch twitch* I have been nannying for WAAAYYY too long ;)
Time for me to start my "baby's for hire" business...
If the bed shaker works, go for it, else I'd say buy a separate light, point it at your face, and then plug it through one of those timer switches that switches on and off at a set time. You know what I'm talking about?
