I had a very similar thing happen to me when I recently bought a Dell laptop for my daughter. The package bottom was cut open and the laptop was gone when UPS delivered. The problem was that the UPS driver delivered to my next door neighbor who didn't notice anything wrong. I guess someone at UPS got greedy and, to put it bluntly, stole it. I had a very good experience with Dell, however. They took my word for it and replaced the unit within a week. The sad part is that Dell just took this as an expected business loss. There was no attempt to trace it through UPS. I wonder what percentage of deliveries are lost like this (ie stolen)?
well, every Dell unit has it's service tag. If they keep a note which one's got stolen, it's possible to trace it if someone calls support or some other way tag numbers surface

i dont know... but it must be pretty common in all of my months as an active member of axim site i have heard at least 10 caes of this...i do agree that if dell would just ship in a plain box there would be less problems.... my dad collects and sells turn tables in his spare time and if it is expensive enough i have seen him stick this small clear box onto the turntables box and i am presuming this a gps unit...
thanks for the comments guys. yeah, the whole situation sucks big time.. however i'm pretty sure they'll be sending me out a new one. last night i got a call back from that first dude i talked to and he informed me that its happened a few times and that they are looking into the situation.. he said he'd get an expedited shipment send asap so i'm hoping for my pda by the end of the week. i'm also hoping they wont ask for the extra goodies from my original shipment back either ;) ;) ;)
however i still want more compensation.. this sorta crap is just not on. i agree, put it in an unmarked brown box.. maybe that'll stop these malaysian crooks (i assume it was somewhere between the dell factory in malaysia and the airline as aussies just dont do this sorta stuff. plus the local courier hadn't heard anthing like it before).
oh, and the local courier was BAX international.
ps. sorry bout the expletives.. i'm used to conversing on a forum that edits them out automatically. plus i was genuinely pissed off as u can imagine.
dang, thats bad man, also i wonder why dell writes it off as a business expense, the shipping company should pay for the loss, as it was prusebly (sp) their employee.
woot, got my toy today... in fact i'm posting this from it now. love wifi :D
this time the package came fully sealed with chunky staples to hold the box together. guess dell learn from their mistakes!
oh and the best thing... stupid packers sent all the accessories again. woot free accessories! :D
Heh, mind you I would have opened the box and add $50. Just for the panic attack that seems like they stole it again only to find an intact package with $50.
Anyway goood to hear it mate! :)

Rest in peace my beloved X30 :(
You took a lot of physical abuse... (lots of drops!)
I had the same thing happen to me. I kept the original box so I have proof that the items were removed before the UPS sticker went over it. The UPS stickers are put on by Dell employees before they load onto a truck.
If you drive for UPS, you make... 60k/yr and up. My driver makes closer to 90K. These drivers are not going to risk their jobs and jailtime for a few measly electronics. UPS guys do serve jailtime if investigation proves them guilty.
Now, if you are a shipping clerk at Dell... making $10/hr, that ppc has a street value of $350. That is an easy way to double to weekly salary.
Anyways... I have my entire office furnished with Dell products and they have good if not great service. Most customer service has a heavy accent so if don't understand them, use their web chat or email them. Needless to say, my PPC was replaced with 1 call lasting 10 minutes.
Would also like to have introduced myself as a new Axim user if I had one.
Seems to be a common Aussie affair. Carton turned up last week minus the PDA, battery and manual. The outside carton was untouched (still stapled) but the anti-tamper tape was broken.
Yes, they promised to send a new one and phone me each day to give me status - no call yet
Aha! Finally! The replacement just arrived. Took it's bloody time. Just over three weeks since i first called them when i was assured it would take no more than two but at least it's finally here. Looks like i've ended up with two set's of cradles and cables too. And three batteries!
Hope anyone else with missing Axims got their's as well.
