Tired of all those Free Credit Card Offers

ARe you sick of getting those credit card offers in the mail? Well, what I've been doing is stuffing the postage paid reply envelopes with my own "junk mail" (e.g. newspapers, etc) and mailing it back to them. I figure that its going to cost them something to mail the stuff back. I've tried to ask them to stop mailing them but it just keeps coming.

What I was wondering is how to get everyone to do it. You figure that if it cost them 37 cents for each postage paid envelope sent back to them and if you have 1 million of them sent back, it would cost them 370K. Thats a chunk of change.

Need some suggestions!!!!

Try several, thin, envelope-sized sheets of lead instead of just your other paper "spam".

...or anything heavy that would pass through USPS automated mail machines. :approve:

Might not stop you're personal 'snail-mail spam', but it will cost them!

The national credit bureaus offer a toll-free number that lets you to opt out of all pre-approved credit card offers. Just call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) and follow the prompts. I did this a few years ago, and opted never to receive credit offers ever, again. Because "ever" is hopefully longer than 5 years, they mailed me a form for me to sign. Now, rather than daily, I receive one credit card offer every few months.

I reserve the stuffed envelope trick for solicitations from the Republican party that make incorrect assumptions about my views on what constitutes a civil society.

The first thing that I do whenever I move it go to http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ and register my address. I get little junk mail. There are links on the site for the Telephone Preference Service too.

Neither are 100% effective, but they do make a difference.

I deal with phone spam in two ways:

1) As a general rule, I don't answer any call if it's CID Blocked or not in my phone book.
That's what I have voicemail for and I explain that fact in my Voicemail Greeting.

B) If I'm feeling rambunctious and spiteful (and have the time), I answer and lead them on up until POS and then I say "Sorry, not interested!"

Thank all for the info

Thank you all for the info. I will try the national opt out services. Hopefully this will cut down on them. The biggest thing I hate right now is that we recently purchased a new home and somehow these "insurance" people got hold of my name and even who I borrowed the money from and how much I borrowed. Thats scary. I found out that all this is public record at the county court house and somehow these companies get a hold of a list and start sending them out. The insurance is to cover you incase you die or get sick, etc to "help" pay for the mortgage.

re: junk mail... i normally just throw it away but you've inspired me to use the postage paid return envelope :approve:
is it a biohazard to mail cat poop? :D

as far as phone calls go, God Bless whoever invented caller ID! On the offhand chance that I do pick up the phone, i try to liven up their dreary telemarketer lives by telling them that i'm terribly sorry i can't talk right now i'm _______________ and go into graphic detail about a clogged sink or chopping onions :p if i'm feeling particularly ornery i'll tell them i'm right in the middle of marital relations

i get those letters from the DNC all of the time. plus phone calls, all because i am registered "Democrat". it is irritating getting calls from dnc fundraisers, trying to explain away all that is wrong with the democratic party. shortly after the election i got a call and the woman started with trying to get me to make a 100 dollar contribution, then 75,50,25,15,10,5. and i kept going lady you just dont get it, and she keeps trying to explain away all my concerns. and for the donation letters i send them one of these little puppies as my contribution

i get mail from both sides, mostly from the DNC and the Georgia Democratic Party, and most of the stuff i get on the republican side is from the Republican Sentorial Committiee. I have never made a monetary contribution to either party or canidate. i feel like i can make a bigger contribution by giving my time and energy to the campaigns.

yes, i have never donated to a party, but i am an avid voter. I have voted at EVERY election (mayor, city council, school board, etc) since i was 18. Not a claim most can make.
