Why? Practical, sociologically interesting, suspenseful, and anything that involves a Dad's bond with his son, motorcycles, ghosts, and how to fix a motorcycle with a beer can is just great, clean fun.
My favorites change with time but Steinbeck's "East of Eden" was the first book I thought 'Wow'. That was almost 30 years ago.
This thread is pretty interesting. My sterotyped image of readers of the site would presume that reading interests would be limited to science fiction. It turns out that almost all aspects of literature are represented.
