What I mean by that is that the settings, events and circumstances established by the book lead to believable behavior by the characters, given their situation, past and motives, also established by the book. That's just not the case in these books.
Whee, someone I can disagree with and not worry about them getting angry over the disagreement! I do disagree...they are as well constructed as the C. S. Lewis series. Yes, they do require you to believe that two different types of people inhabit the same areas, and that "monsters" exist, but then that is, to me, no more difficult to believe than the "coexistence" we have with people who blow other people up because they disagree and/or those who want to legislate us into acting the way they think is proper. No, they are not worlds constructed with the complexity of a David Brin world, but then they are not meant to be such! They are designed to entertain. If we learn from them, so much the better (but not the author's intention.)
I read a great deal of fantasy, science fiction, and even space opera. I also read mystery, novels, classics and history. I think that ANYTHING you use to get a nonreader into reading is great! As a teacher (and librarian) I hooked nonreaders with space opera, classics comics, and anything else I could find. Once I got them reading, then steering them into other books that they would enjoy was fun (and easier.) The variety of reading is as large as the variety of readers, that's what makes it great.

The mistake is in Chapter 23.
Someone is referred to in respect to their power and influence.
If you interpret in one way it is a mistake.
If you interpret in an other it is not.
Based on the 6 books as a whole I believe it is a mistake.
If you start reading into things, making assumptions, and also incorporate some of the elements from the movies then it might not be.
It might not be Rowling's mistake either.
It might be a typesetting mistake like happened with previous books.
In any case it is certainly not ground-breaking.
