anyone else have bad experiences with tigerdirect.com?
Order my item last sunday and they sent an email monday to confirm order and it said sent to shipper.(They said 1 day shipping to shipper) then on friday i get a tracking number from them(it was really sent on friday) and the tracking number doesn't work.
I thought that tiger was a reputable company but then I went and read some reviews and learned that this is a shady company. Has anyone else had bad experiences with tigerdirect.com

I think they're reputable. I would not be concerned about that.
The thing with tracking numbers is that they are issued ahead of time. Tiger Direct get a whole bunch of waybills with tracking numbers. They stick the tracking number onto your package (which is when they let you know what it is) but the courier company does not know the status of your package until they have scanned it.
Let's say the warehouse is in NY and there are 1,000 packages going to Trillville. The courier may not even have scanned your package since it's inside a larger load.
So there are several reasons why the tracking number will not work for a little while. Sometimes it takes longer than others.
If they said it was 1 day and it's taken this long, I would call them and complain. At the very least I would request a refund on the shipping costs. You can threaten to cancel your order (which will incur more return shipping costs for them) if they don't want to bend.

They said that the order couldn't be cancelled, I would have to return it after I had recieve it. I don't want to do that especially after I recieve what I have been waiting for and really really really wanting. I don't know I'll give them a call tommorow and see.
thanks for the info guys

I would not accept that. I would tell them that you'll refuse the package and contact your credit card company direct. (I've been down this path :) )

I once ordered a LCD monitor from dell and it was delieved before the tracking number worked. I assumed that this was a problem with the delievery company(can't remember if it was fedex or ups) not updating their web sites quickly on weekends.
I have ordered stuff from tigerdirect before and never had any trouble although I assumed from the start that it take them a while to get it to me. If I want something quick then I order from someone like newegg.
Their prices are good, but if a product has a mail in rebate, don't expect to receive it. It's been 9 weeks now, and I'm still waiting for a rebate to show up. The website they give shows it's "processing". And it's been "processing" to 9 weeks already.

minds you, we even have a walkin store in markham, ontario
no pushy sales people, very nice
well, maybe the cashier could use less piercing, i swear
the grrl has at least 12 piercings on her face
What about buying an item that you thought was new but ended up being a refurb?
I don't buy refurb stuff because I worked 1 summer doing refurb work on electronic stuff. I wouldnt trust the stuff. They are "refurb" for a reason. We jumped wires for cracked boards.
Frankly, I question how they got such a high rating on that second link. When I first heard about them & checked them out(circa 2001 or earlier) they had a 2.something rating.
Just check out their Better Business Bureau report
Quote:
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to a pattern of complaints.
Specifically our files show a pattern of complaints alleging dissatisfaction with product quality, failure to deliver promised goods, service issues, misrepresentation in advertising and marketing practices and the failure to address and overcome the basic cause of complaints brought to their attention by the Better Business Bureau.
Complaints allege customers are led to believe they are buying new, Brand Name computer systems, parts and other products with either a 90-day, or 1 year warranty. Complainants allege they are receiving generic, defective and refurbished items and only a 30-day warranty with the option to purchase the 1-year warranty. Customers who purchase the warranty also experience difficulty in getting return phone calls to get the problems fixed or replaced. Customer are told they may return the items for replacement, but they will need to pay again for the replacement and will credited back when the item is returned and received by the company.
Some of the complaints have issues with the advertised rebate, both the catalog and web site have numerous offers for items with a mail-in rebate. Upon receiving the products the rebate application is not included in the package. Customers are told the rebate application is on the website and customers are required

The average rebate processing time is 6-12 weeks for most places. Yes, this is rediculous, and yes, this is on purpose. Many rebate clearing centers have a set wait time of 1-4 weeks for rebates that they recieve. Then, they scrutinize every detail of the terms and make sure it is followed precisely. ie. If it requests a copy of the barcode, and you send the original, there is a good chance they will deny it, even though the original is obviously better proof of purchase. If it asks you to circle the item on the receipt, and you do not, they will probably deny it too.
Why all this? Well simply because they don't want people to get rebates and also to discourage them from sending them in the future.
Only about half of rebates are even actually sent in. Of the ones that are sent in, nearly 40% get denied. So what this means to the retailer is, if they offer something on a rebate, generally only 30% of people will end up getting it for that price, but most of them will buy it assuming they will get it for that price.
So bottom line: Retailers like rebates a lot. Consumers hate rebates a lot.
Of course this does vary on the rebate, if it's $200 on a laptop, about 80% of those get successfully redeemed, but on small things, like $10 on some software, those have even a lower redemption rate. That's why you see a lot of "10 free things after rebate with purchase of a Destop/laptop". Most of those 10 freebies will never get redeemed.
So don't give up on the rebate-yet.

Not through tigerdirect. I've read stories of people never getting $100+ rebates from them.
Google "tigerdirect rebate" and see what stories you find.
And, again, from the BBB:
Quote:
"both the catalog and web site have numerous offers for items with a mail-in rebate. Upon receiving the products the rebate application is not included in the package. Customers are told the rebate application is on the website and customers are required to comply with the program and submit paperwork that they never received. "
If they send me a refurb or a defective one I will be pissed. I thought that tiger was a reputable company but i learned after i ordered that that isn't so. its my first time i have ordered from them and so far i am really disappointed.
