Just curious if anyone has a DVR Tivo from Directv.
I have had a DirecTV TiVo for almost three years. I don't want to sound overly dramatic but it really will change the way you watch TV. The only live TV I watch nowadays is News and Sports. TiVo is the kind of product you really need to try before its full value becomes apparent, so buy it from someplace that takes returns and just try it out for a week or two. My wife poo-poo'ed the purchase but after one day she said, and I quote, "This is the coolest thing ever."
Best reason to have a DirecTV TiVo:
-The DirecTV versions have 2 tuners, meaning you can watch one channel live while it records another OR you can watch a recorded show while it records TWO others.
- Season Passes: Name the show and it tracks the scheduling and records it for you. I like the show Arrested Development, but it has been on Summer hiatus or cancelled. Unbeknownst to me Fox ran an Arrested Development marathon Friday, I come home late and there are 5 episodes of one of my favorites shows unexpectedly waiting for me. You prioritize the Season Passes in case of scheduling conflicts, and you can customize how many episodes are saved, how long they are saved for, you can even specify to record only new episodes and exclude re-runs.
-7 seconds Back button. What did they say? Hit the button, jump 7 seconds back in TV time and hear it again. I use that button constantly, and find myself really wishing I had a similar function on my stereo, DVD player, and CD player.
One thing to note is that because DirecTV relies on content producers for its programming they have agreed to disable the TTG (TiVo To Go) functionality seen in stand-alone TiVo's, meaning DirecTiVo's can still share shows amongst your own TiVo's via MVR (Multi-Room Viewing) but it does not allow for the ripping/burning of shows afforded standalone's by TTG. Now, that functionality, and MANY others, are available through hacking your DirecTiVo if you know your way around a linux command line.

Thanks for the input, i think it will be a great plus to have if we do upgrade :)
I also would like to upgrade before the new R15 DVR comes out as it is a Directv only DVR (no tivo, directv made the dvr) i like some features on it (very similar to the standard D10), but i think the tivo interface will suit us better, plus i like the idea of seazon pass :)
I don't have DirectTV, but I do have Tivo and I would agree it will change the way you watch TV. By far one of the best "toys" (as my wife puts it) I have ever purchased. I don't know if it is the same for DirectTV, but the Home Media deal with Tivo is pretty neat as well. Schedule programs from any internet connection, transfer music and pictures form your computer to the TV, and transfer shows to your computer to burn to put on my Axim. Fun Stuff! You will love it!

I used to have a Tivo, but I sold it when I heard they were going to start putting up ads. I felt it's not worth paying for it each month and have to still have ads on the stuff too.
It was pretty cool though...

I have 2 and we love them! They are the greatest toys ever. Now, no matter what I do or where I am, I always want to rewind. When my boss, for ex, says, "nice job" I feel that I could rewind that, or record it, b/c I can't believe my ears. When I listen to the radio in my car, sometimes I get the urge to repeat the last line. Now that I can do it w/tv I want to do it w/everything. Yes, you'll love tivo.
Just get one, and your tv watching experience will never be the same again, we have had DirectiVo for 3 or 4 years now and its hard for me to enjoy watching tv at other peoples house's now.. we have 3 of them with a multiswitch... tivo rocks.. dude

The Directv One does not have ads....I have seen it and used it in stores and it has no ads
I asked directv and they had no idea about that and said that should never happen....

Right now we just have a single receiver, hehehe, so a tivo will be a big jump as is :approve:
Are house is very hard to wire from the upstairs to the basement, so that is why we have yet to have more then one receiver
One thing i dont like with the Tivo is that there is no in guide Picture. We JUST (about 2 weeks ago) upgraded to a newer standard receiver (we had a 13 year old sony one that was dieing) and the picture in the guide is very handy, but besides that, the upgrade looks awesome hehe.
Just a tip of advice for Tivo users, when you are in the guide... Press Display, and change it from DirecTV grid to the Tivo Guide.. its much, .. MUCh better. I have tivo series one, so it might be different on the newer receivers.

Yeah,
I had the regular Tivo one, and they were starting to add ads. We would like to switch from cable to Direct TV, but our internet (Comcast) cost would go up if we canceled cable tv.
