I guess I'm the only one here plus maybe 1-2 more that love America. Yes we are multi-cultural and that is a good thing. America is a melting pot but when the ingredients don't mix well then it starts getting worse. I'm done with this subject for now.
Idea= Maybe what America needs to do is melt all these different languages together along with the cultures(which has happened pretty much well).

No... I think you are the only one here who loves 'Your' version of America.

As you said , it's a melting pot , it's constantly mixing and the general flavour change to keep on with your food comparison, you may like the actual taste or how it used to taste , but you can't stop the melting pot nor the changes it implies.

okay i just read it. that is why I am against spanish being put on a coupon before english, cause it leads to stuff like the link you posted.
I know what you mean. Look what happened when we were forced to let the Blacks drink from White's water fountains. Now they're having sex with our women and they vote as well.
You better do whatever you can to make sure that Spanish words are never listed before the White people's words on a coupon. If you don't, you might wake up one day and find some non-white person making laws for you. And, as I'm sure you know, letting a non-white make laws for a White would be an abomination.

I was wondering how long until the "patriotism" card was played. :rolling:
Like it's "the American Way" to subjugate another language. I was under the impression that America wants the world to see that they've moved beyond past prejudices and suppressions. I had certainly hoped so.

First off: It's Latin, not Hispanic to be accurate.
Second: I understand JMJSelect frustration. I have experienced a small level of that type of frustration. However, speaking as an American who only knows a handful of phrases in different languages, I believe it is time to learn more than just English. In every country I have visited, learning a few simple phrases ("Where is the bathroom?" or "What time does the train leave?") opened doors of hospitality to me from the residents there.
Oh and by the way, if an American spends any time in Great Britain or Australia, you will quickly realize that here in the United States we speak what I will call "Americaneese".
Regionally speaking, Americaneese is just as diverse as any of the languages spoken around the world. I have difficulty conversing with someone speaking "Hip-hop Americaneese". I can't understand a word any rapper says on their CDs. And most of the young people I work with (and my children, for that matter) can exclude me from their conversations simply by speaking the way rapper's do.
Southern Americans have ways of speaking that can drive a person from New York or Boston insane. (I have seen this in action. The laid back cadence of folks from the Big Easy sent my girlfriend into a tailspin. I became her translator. )
Lastly: Since we have no "official" language in America and the lids off Pandora's multilingual box, we should have fun with it.
--Make the restaurant owners provide you with a translation.
--Ask them to teach helpful phrases in the various languages on their packaging or coupons.
--Get a friend, go to an eating establishment and act like you can't understanding English, Spanish, Dutch, French or any of the "traditional languages" and order from the menu.
And for goodness sake, take the advice of the old Czech Proverb "Learn a new language and get a new soul."
Oy, wait a moment here! Ok, only about 5% of Georgians are Latinos (locals prefer Hispanic). What about the rest of the population? And what in the heck difference does it make?
This country has always been multicultural and multilingual and that is what gives us our strength! My maternal ancestors came from Germany in the 1700's and married anglos and irish. I grew up in South Texas and, I suppose you could say I am culturally and ethically a latino. I spoke spanish before english, so, big deal.
We have family friends who are Chinese (1st generation,) Vietnamese and everything else. They often use their native languages and we try to learn from them. After all, learning is what keeps the brain boogers away! I MUCH prefer a United States where diversity is celebrated (but not mandated) and love seeing multilingual signs and hearing conversations. Isolationism and boxing ourselves off from others who are "different" in any way is the quick way down the slide to insanity.
kjohnson I don't care to be politically correct so i'm gonna keep saying hispanic.
as to the northerners being driven to insanity from hearing a sountherner speak, I can understand. I'm in the south and can tolerate the accent here, but its the really really really slow speaking southerners that get to me. but on the flip-side alot of southerners cant tolerate northeners accent.
I like both northern and southern accents(as long as they aren't tooooo accenty(if thats a word))

As far as southern accents -- big difference between redneck and southern.
Redneck goes something like this, "I ain't never got me none of them thangs." This dialect is passed down from one generation to the next, ensuring many southern states their place WAY down on the state education rankings.
True southern belle accents are dripping with sugar!
And let's face it folks, rednecks are everywhere in the US (and world). They're just called different names. :approve:

I really really don't like accents from Minnesota, so that would be the north. Just the really whiny high-pitched ones, I had a teacher with one once and it got on my nerves. Not that I have anything against people from Minnesota, Grentz is great and has no accent. You just have to like there Governor, Jesse Ventura. He could take on George Pataki AND Jeb Bush in a brawl.
I like Southern Accents, there, warm if you get what I mean. As far as other accents are concerned as a child I had quite a British one. Now and then I'll relapse and say something odd in a British accent lol. It was a decent one though, not a cockney. Homegrown Geordie.
Well We'll See Ya . I have two gripes about this well know southern saying. 1. only one person usually says this. whose we??? it's only one person. 2. it takes on average 32 minutes to say this by the rednecks.
your right though about the southern belles, I don't care where your from nobody has the ladies like we do. I've been up north and you have to search for hotties, I mean search. Down here all you have to do is go to the mall and sit and you'll see many many hotties.

I implore you to watch the video, it is hilerious. From SNL whilst Christopher Walken was hosting so you know it has to be good.
I made a phonecall to Alabama, got a wrong number and well I'll have to get the mp3 from Jon as I thankfully recorded the conversation, it really doesn't need a description.
