Okay so my friend gives me these coupons to McDonalds and I am outraged :realmad:
If you look closely Spanish is left/above from English right/below. they do this to their cups and wrappers to. and this is in georgia, USA
[pissed off mode=on]
THIS IS AMERICA why the #$(@ is an AMERICAN corporation throwing out the AMERICAN LANGUAGE to a minority??? DO they now think that Spanish is the AMERICAN LANGUAGE????????
[pissed off mode=off]
This is really really sad, America as i knew it is really going down the drain, thats a shame.

The Europeans that don't have Engilsh as an official language still have it on most of their stuff. They don't seem to mind too much.
You shouldn't mind that other languages are on your products, what you should be attacking is the fact that many people who live here do not speak the national language. That is something to be upset about.

I won't rest until I get a coupon in my families native language -- PIG-LATIN. And for goodness sake, Google translate doesn't even offer a conversion!!
Well, part of the issue is that we don't have an official language in the United States. Although English is the language of the country, it's not official anywhere in our government.
Secondly, Spanish may someday be the language of use throughout the Americas. In the last census, there were more Hispanics than any other minority group represented in the United States.
As for me, although I am a proud German American, I speak Spanish and I have a great respect for the Hispanic people I have met in my travels (and living) in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica. I'm certainly not offended by dual-language signage in our country...and it makes even more sense in the Southern United States where the majority of the Hispanic population lives. You might not think that Georgia is very "Hispanic," but I remind you that Florida is only a stone's (mountain) throw away.
you guys aren't reading this correctly. Spanish is put on the coupon BEFORE English. It use to be the English was BEFORE Spanish.
English IS the offical language of america not Spanish.
i don't mind spanish being on coupons manuals whatever but when it comes BEFORE English then it becomes a problem.
Maybe the coupon was issued in a predominantly Hispanic area? Or in Mexico! Or Spain!

I live in northwest metro atlanta, In my county 60-70% are white and this was printed in the US for US distribution
*edit: well I don't know if it was printed in the US, could of been outsourced but it was distributed in the US. Watch you go to a McDonalds and read everything. If it's not already done in your area It will be soon.

I find your plight somewhat laughable, but I don't mean it as insult. It just seems a little trivial is all. I don't know if everything down there has Spanish on it, but up here eveything has French and English on it. I don't mind at all. Since I live in an English speaking area labels have French first and then English, perhaps it is same in the French part of Canada, named "Québec", I pronounce it like "Key-Beck" myself.
Like I said I don't really mine, there was a fiasco a few years back in Quebec about signs having a large French and small English. So it's not as if we don't have language problems aswell. Leads me to something I don't care much for, some Americans who I've talked to, who reek of Anti-Nationalism about how different Canada is and how much better it is. None of them have ever been here, and there not right. Hey it's not like our farts smell like fresh baked bread, thats a whole other story though.
I may of implied that Anti-Nationalism is bad. I don't mean to imply that Nationalism is a good thing. You really need a balence. You don't exactly want rampant Nationalism, I don't need to remind anyone last time that happened.
I'm incredibly off topic, so I'm going to wrap this up. I may or may not have made a point, and if I didn't then I'm sorry, I'm just in no mood to articulate.
I didn't mean to offend anybody and I hope that I don't.
Clip... You might not think that Georgia is very "Hispanic," but I remind you that Florida is only a stone's (mountain) throw away.
Hey you know stone mountain! :approve:
Georgia is very hispanic. Dalton, Ga (north) is the carpet capital of the US, and the workforce is very predominately hispanic. Also, the majority of the construction workers in metro Atlanta are hispanic -- many illegals. It's been stated that if the INS were to crack down on illegals, the housing construction business would come to a grinding halt.
I have no problem with hispanic community. Generally are a very proud and hard-working people.
I do agree with JMJ that English should be first.
I am pushing my 13-year old daughter to become bilingual (Spanish) to GREATLY improve her value to future employers. :approve:

I know that Canada was basically started by France. As to the English thing I don't know. But down here in the US, English Is the offical Language. I don't mind a bilingual country, I don't mind a trilingual,... but I get pissed when The offical language is put aside to please a minority who(majority of the minority) don't care to learn the language of the country that they come to legally or illegally. I don't have anything against Hispanic people, one of my best friends is half belize, It's the disregard for the Offical language that they don't want to learn.
