anyone hear about this? (DivX)

My brother tells me that last night on the news, they were talking about the guy who came up with the divX idea and that he is now being taken to a Federal Court so that movie companies can stop him from going forward with this technology. Various movie companies, of course, do not like the idea of this technology being available to copy DVD's.
Has anyone else heard about this or does my brother just not know what he was talking about (?). Maybe it's old news but, it's the first time I heard about it. (?)

I did a quick search on Google News and nothing shows up.

In fact, the 5.04 codec has recently been released and at least one company is prepared to produce Divx players.

I asked my brother again about it and he said he saw it on NBC (Tom Brokaw's show nightly news) (?). I wish I would have seen it because sometimes my brother doesn't follow stories all to well :)
