Canada to introduce ISP Monitoring

You read right, Canada's Justice Minister today announced plans to introduce new "lawful access" legislation next month. The proposed law will require ISPs to install new surveillance capabilities and give law enforcement the right to demand personal information without a warrant. I could easily see this happening in the states, with your Carnivore system and Patriot Act. I didn't really see this kind of thing happening up here. I'm not sure if I'm that for or against it, I mean it's good in that it will catch those doing illicit things, but having everything you do loged is an infringement on liberty.

What does anybody else think about this?

protection at the expense of liberty is not the way to go. I agree there is a need to stay on top of illegal things but i am not with being surveiled without just cause.

Blanket surveillance without a warrant should NEVER be allowed...

Has this news been given to the press. This is something people should know.

And that's why the government that passes this law will be the one that will be voted out of office in the next election.

Sorry Howard, thats the only link I could find on the subject. I'm sure if/when if becomes law they'll be something on the CBC.

They'd better not go all Fox News on me and say it's the best thing since sliced bread.
