I live in the Southeast Texas area. I feel very fortunate that Katrina isn't coming for my area. On the other hand, I feel very sorry for the people in the New Orleans area. I will definitely keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

Yeah I heard that if there was a category 6 katrina would fit in there.

Yo guys this is one serious storm. And new orleans(if i'm correct) is either below sea level or at sea level with a wall to keep out water. This storm is gonna throw alot ALOT of water at new Orleans.

Stay safe new orleans and all others in the path. stay dry and grounded.

We're not in the direct path(atl) but I think we'll feel something from katrina

#edit- just looked this up. Max winds 175mph, gusts 200+mph.
Katrina is the 4th strongest atlantic hurricane.

The major concern with New Orleans is that it's 6 feet below sea level. As yookaloco on fark.com said, New Orleans "is basically an in ground pool waiting to be filled".

The Big Easy has an extensive levee system that is designed to protect it from floods and storm surges, but it's only 13 feet tall. The storm surge from Katrina is expected to top 28 feet, with 30 foot waves on top of that.
new orleans is gonna get hit bad

I live in East Central Mississippi and we are being told that we will see the end of the hurricane force winds 100 mph or more. I am really hoping that it dies out upon hitting landfall. I will probably be without power for several days afterwards so I will not be posting much.

I can always post using my axim and my BT dial up connection! hahahaha

My Mom lives in the very small town of Ville Platte, La. Its about 2 hours inland from N.O. and I have a couple of cousins leaving there now and are cought up in the mess.
So lets hope its not to bad when it hits, after living through Hugo I certainly can understand the power of a Direct Hit.
