Boy, are you always so rude? Read the thread. I dont blame Dell for dropping my Axim - I blame my son!
Sure, they sell insurance, and its probably one of their highest profit products. And did you know what when you make use of this insurance, you get a`referbished` so they can fix them...
and did you see my note: whey cant they at least repair (replace) my Axim at cost price, which is easily half the price of a new one (and what they claim repair would cost)
The LCS is not half the cost, as you can read above, they are available for 85$ retail... so even less for Dell if they use it in repair (and the labor will be minimal, its almost a plug and play part from what I have see in a 'disassembly' thead...
My point it, regardless of who broke my Axim, and if I have insurance or not, Dell is for sure asking a very high, and even hard to justify price for major repairs, at least here in Europe...

On a related note, I reckon there's no retroactive way to obtain accidental damage insurance from Dell for your Axim, even if you can prove it works perfectly?

I'm pretty sure when I had my X5 they gave me the option of sending it in for them to review it first. It was a while ago so I could be wrong. But it's worth a shot.

If it still works fine, and you're planning on buying a new one to replace it, why not use this one while saving up for the new one? That way, you could still have the PDA and your money will actually be earning (whatever little) interest for you....

When you get your new one, donate you current/cracked on to your son (if he's old enough).....

I just went thru this with Dell. Dropped my X50v after 2 months of ownership. After 5 days of Dell chat, emails, phone calls, I finally talked to someone yesaterday who spoke my language and understood what I wanted to know: Can I pay to have my screen replaced by Dell and how much is it?
"Javier" said Dell does not do any repairs - will just send a refurb unit if past the magic 21 days of purchase. Recommended buying new as, without Complete Care, they would charge me $240 for a refurb. Also suggested a couple places that would replace screen for around $100. As the fall was hard enough to shatter my screen, I'm not sure what else got all wacked out so I now have a new unit on order. I guess I'll put the old on on ebay for parts. I had an HP Jornada that HP replaced after a fall for just a crack in the top corner. I think it would have been cheaper just to replace the case. Anyway, it seems that replacement not repair is the norm, and not just for Dell.

I think Dell calls it Complete Care or something like that. I got it with my x50v and it basically covers you for whatever time period you purchase (I got the 2 year) no matter what happens to the axim, including accidental damage.

As for the bus running over the cell, a lot of stores offer to sell you an extended warranty with electronics and many of those do cover accidents as well. Cingular has insurance like that, but they have a 2 replacement a year policy.

Not out of the ordinary, same way with appliances, cars, almost everything these days. Of course they would rather you buy a new one. Makes that 20.00 Rhino alum case look cheap now huh?
