Just thought I'd pop in to say that I am keeping to my pledge to not post anything political on this site ... for now. :approve:
Let's face it guys/gals ... debates on this subject are pretty pointless. Neither "side" will change their opinion. Kinda like discussing the "a" word -- pro-lifers and anti-lifers will never agree! Oh heck, I just made a political statement!
Ditto..
:approve:

MiG-25 and Su-25 attack jets in 2003.
Mustard gas in April of this year.
Sarin in May of this year.
The pile of straws is larger than you're willing to believe.
The Mig-25s are 20 or more years old. Regardless I'm not sure that they constitute WMDs somehow.
The mainstream media didn't seem to pick up on any Sarin or Mustard Gas findings this year. If there had been significant findings I would have expected that they might.

The "mainstream media"? Do you think that they report on everything they find or only that which will sell newspapers/advertising time? The media runs the stories that further thier own political agenda. Bashing the President and reporting that his numbers are at an all time low is much more press worthy then saying he was right.
Come on, Howard!
Your statement is akin to saying "well, I read it on the Internet, so it must me true!"
Let's not let the conspiracy theories get out of control.
Are you actually suggesting that they would all get together to suppress something as important as a substantial WMD find? Surely not.
Bashing the media is certainly the flavour of the decade, but we should not let it get out of control.
I think that "well, I read it on the Internet, so it must be true!" is much more aptly applied to a significantly substantial(?) story that some propaganda site picks up but no-one else does.
If there were substantial discoveries of Sarin and Mustard Gas made in 2005, where are the stories?

2 tons of low enriched uranium
2000 radioactive sources.
this is ingredients for making a dirty bomb/nuclear weapon.
But i'm not to sure about the second site. It's conservative and has this pic. you judge for yourself.(the first site is reputable so you can trust it if you want)
It amazes me how deep people with dig and how much spin they will put on a story to try to defend the stupid, lying, crooked sack of s*** in the White House and his henchmen. All you have to do in this country is say you are a Christisn and you can get away with murder, ie: Pat Roberson.
If any legitimate, verifiable, WMD were found in Iraq, the morons in Washington would be dancing in the streets laughing, but the reality is even their own weapons inspector David Kaye, who bought their claim of the existence of such weapons, concluded after his inspection that none existed. If it make you feel better voting for a fraud, by dredging up obscure unsubstantiated claims, go for it.

well a year ago weapons grade uranium, WHERE WAS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA??????????????????????
I would say weapons grade uranium in IRAQ is a major find people. Well it's not wmd, PEOPLE ITS THE MAIN INGREDIENT IN WMDS.

I missed the "weapons grade uranium" part. I saw the talk about radioactive material and low-enriched uranium, but that's about it. Can you point me to the quote about weapons-grade uranium?
The irony of course is that the US has probably pumped WAY more than 2 tonnes of uranium INTO Iraq via the depleted uranium weapons. So there is no argument that there is uranium in Iraq. The question is whether it's actually weapons-grade or not.
strap a stick of dynamit to some low-enriched uranium and you've got a dirty bomb.
You guys can keep living in your fantasy world, appaise appaise appaise, but in the real world but the US kicked saddam out(which your happy about but wished we never went in cause it was illegal, kind of a contridiction huh?) found wmds, liberated millions,.....
look folks we found wmds and i'm happy saddam is no longer in power.
why the mainstream media didn't report on (keyword) uranium (emphasis on the word uranium) ????????? you figure that out

I got the year wrong (time flies when you don't sleep through the news) but it took me all of 5 seconds to find the story on CNN.
You want more mainstream than that? http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/...fer/index.html
And the 20-year old planes are still one of the fastest combat aircraft today.
In 2002 they penetrated the airspace of two neighboring countries and shot down a US Predator.
WMD or not they were unaccountable prohibited material.

yeah you find articles on the web, but how much do you want to bet that almost no coverage was in tv broadcasts and newspapers(which is the two most watched/read way of getting news)? how much do you want to bet that the shells weren't front page news or a head lines news??? I haven't yet to see any of these in the front sections of the paper, any paper or any significal(if thats a word) coverage on any tv broadcasts. yeah it was covered but was it put infront of people the way they are covering cindy sheehan(in the US anyways)?
The mass media has political motives, whatever would benefit pres Bush they wont cover like they would something that benefits their motives. for example cindy sheehan(if thats how you spell her name)
*edit: on a side note that's one hugh stash on Duelfer there gjw. (in the article you provided)

........unlike those who give us "news" via talk radio.
For good or bad, our perceptions of the media tend to be filtered through our existing attitudes, beliefs, etc. Consequently, we should take the rants from both the left and right with a healthy grain of salt, IMO.
Actually I had seen that article, but figured it couldn't possibly be what was being referred to:
Having read the article, it's not proof of WMDs. Certainly in the past Iraq DID have Sarin. The existence of one shell that accidentally contained Sarin is not proof that Iraq had WMDs. The very same article even insinuates that the insurgents did not even know what it was.
1 shell that contained Sarin. And they didn't even know what it was or how to use it. Could it be that this is part of a massive stock of identified Sarin waiting to be unleashed on the world? Or perhaps it's old stock that somehow got missed during the clean-up? I don't know the answer, but one of those makes a lot more sense than the other. The Mustard Gas had deteriorated and was not a risk. Hardly points to a massive active WMD program.
There are lots of things that the Iraqi's were not permitted to have under the UN sanctions. They were prohibited from importing:
Aluminium Foil
Baking Soda
Candlesticks
Soap
Saucers
Audio CDs.
to name a few
The Mig-25s of course were not prohibited. Iraq was allowed to maintain an army and airforce etc.

I won't give my opinion here, on whether or not there was WMD found, but I have no problem with people trying to voice their opinion and ressurecting an old debate. It is healthy and entertaining. And you are right. No one will necessarily change their opinion because the debate continues. I hope that people giving their opinions here aren't hated for their opinions. We all have one and I respect each person for it. So, have fun. Debate away.
