One problem I had recently was all the spyware programs I ran wouldn't remove the Huntbar registry entries - ..\BTIEIN\..
Trying to remove via regedit keep giving me access denied. Even in safe mode.
Researching and trying remedys found after googling never worked.
Until I found, after much digging around, that even though your user id has administrative rights, if the registry entry was created under another user's id, you can't remove it until you log on as that user and then delete.
Worked for me when I logged on under my son's log on. Was able to delete the entry.
The Huntbar problem had been irritating me for a year and a half. The actual program and associated stuff was removed, just the registry entry was hanging around. I finally wanted it removed without formating and reloading windows. Or having to mess around with the registry hives.

Even if you don't have permission to the key, you can take ownership of it from an admin account and then re-assign permissions. But you got it sorted, that's the main thing. :)

I tried that. Didn't work.
Which makes no sense to me.

You also probably want to use multiple spyware removers. I've found that after running Ad-Aware, Spybot will find some more, and vice-versa. Even when I've downloaded the latest updates for both! Go figure.
Microsoft antispyware and Adaware has made deals with certain spyware makers so I wouldn't recommend them. Either use "Spybot search and destroy" or change to an OS that is immune to spyware.
I hate webroot spysweaper. It is a very awkward program. I mainly just use Microsoft Antispyware. It works pretty well. Before that came out, I used ad aware.

Actually, out of all the apps listed, the Webroot product is my Favorite. Just out of curiosity, why do you find it awkward, and have you upgraded to verison 4.0? I do agree that the MS product is an excellent product . . .
