Thought I'd see if I could poll all you people to see which got the most votes: DirectTV or The Dish (Network), and what sold it for you. So far, I'm leaning towards DirectTV simply because they have the NASA channel available. I will be getting HD programming and local channels. The offers are all pretty much the same unless I'm missing something; 4 rooms, DVR, etc.
I personally love my local cable service. Barely any outages and I get my really fast internet through them too. They also have a VOIP service but I don't feel like giving them too much money.
I changed from DirecTV to local cable just recently because it was cheaper than DirecTV, plus local/county/state channels, and other channels that I didn't have with DirecTV, plus Encore channels.
But I didn't go to Comcast, thanks to our local utility, they have their own cable service called Click!Network (serving the city of Tacoma). They are cheaper than Comcast too!
Not to mention, I get broadband access for $27 a month (paid yearly), only 1MB speed, but better than paying $45+ thru Comcast!
I liked the programming on satellite, but we have the whole-ka-bang with cable:
.......cable tv + broadband internet + phone
and the price is pretty good,
cable was about $45 / month, but we recently went to the basic-ist for $8 (which has about 25-30 channels),
broadband cable (I keep calling in and asking for a deal) is $19.99 /month,
and the cable (digital, but not voip) phone is about $26 / month.
I'd like SciFi again, but was upset for my cable changing that to only available on digital (more $) service, which was my impitus to change.
I would also like the NASA channel and some of the other satellite only channels, but, I'm fine with what we have.
Very interesting so far. I too have Comcast cable for TV and Internet. Cable is not yet offered where I am moving to and the only ISP available is wireless (line of site type deal).
