SMB Browsing in Tiger

Hello fellow Mac users. I want to share a tip I just learned. I used to have an X30 back when I was using OS X 10.3 Panther. Browsing my Mac via Resco Explorer worked perfectly. I took a hiatus from PPC for a few months, and now I'm back with an X50v and OS X 10.4 Tiger.

I noticed I'd get a connecting error anytime I tried to access my Mac from Resco. It would have no problem with my XP computer on the same network. I finally figured out the default SMB settings were changed in Tiger, and this was the cause of my problems.

You need to go edit the smb.conf file in the /etc directory. Change the value of "use spnego = yes" to "no". Now you can browse your Mac from your handheld.

hi

I have 10.4.2 and an Axim x50V with Resco Explorer 2005, but cannot seem to mount successfully. I always get 'no computers found' or resource not found or not authorized. I can ping my mac successfully from Axim. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Eric

Wow! What an awesome piece of advice. Finally filesharing is working again.

Thanks a million!
