I am shocked that after everyone has seen what Katrina did there are people right on the coast of Galviston who say they will not leave. One lady they interviewed said she did not believe it would hit as hard as the news was saying.
Greetings from Dallas. At this time yesterday, I was on the road from League City which is about 1/2 way between Houston and Galveston. What normally takes me 4 to 4 1/2 hours took 6 hours. My dog and 3 kitties are with me. Unfortunately, my hubby stayed behind to finish boarding up the house. He left around midnight and it has taken him 8 hours to go about 45 miles; he might make it to Dallas sometime today. Needless to say, we need and appreciate every prayer!

Why take the risk?
Last time a hurricane this big hit Galveston, 8000+ people died. I'm sure it will be all the government's fault if they stay and die.
Hmmmm, I wonder who it was in Texas the GWB doesn't like for him to send this one to.
Perhaps, it is a GWB conspiracy to target the oil platforms and refineries the HE doesn't own, to raise the price of HIS oil.
That is it... pure greed, it is all his fault.
Unless of course it turns south, then it is because he doesn't like Mexicans

very true, it seems to me texas has been alot more on the ball. Gov Perry and the mayors of those cities seem to be getting things done while Nagin and Blanco where quiverings indecisive blobs.
Great picture, and everyone down there be safe! I am from Austin and feel for my old neighbors of Houston, Galveston, Beaumont, and Port Arthur among others. Be Safe people and head west! I Hear they are opening all the lanes starting now so that is some good news, I understand people are upset Texas didn't open them sooner, but Texas is also concerned about safety and having Troopers available to protect the citizens evacuating, from head on traffic.
I believe Texas is handling this in a very swift professional manner. I believe it still would have been in this manner, regardless of Katrina. Texas and Florida in the last 50 years has always been on the ball!
I'm planning how to survive the storm. I'm thinking about building a crystal radio (or at least a micropower radio). I have moved some PCs to higher levels already. Currently, the server is still running. I have a spare car battery in the garage that I charged up a few days before. I'll use LEDs for emergency lighting.
As for my friends, those affected have already planned and some have already evacuated. In fact, Jane has already set up the quad Britney server in the hotel room and it's running, albeit with a lot less bandwidth. It's still folding at full speed, though.

This is being hard for me. I have family in Houston right now and they WILL NOT LEAVE. I'm trying to talk them into it, but they WILL NOT LEAVE... Why do they have to be stubborn like me?
