I don't really want to start a debate, (I happen to be on the other side of the fence as an actively working scientist), but I was thinking of the negative press Georgia has been getting with the debate and now with this busing move it's pretty funny from an outsiders perspective.

Suck it up! When I was your age, we had to walk 10 miles to school and up hill both ways through 8 foot snow banks. :soap:

Hey Eric. You are right ... although it is a bit of a catch-22 propsition for politicians ... adopt a wait and see stance and you get skewered for being re-active; do something and you get skewered for being pro-active.

To me, this is similar to canceling school on the FORECAST of snow and ice (which has happened before .. only to have a beautiful sunny day!). Doesn't the state keep at least a week's reserves of diesel on hand? I would have thought it would be more prudent to wait to see the effect of the hurricane on the refineries over the weekend, all the kids go to school as usual on Monday, and then determine on Mon or Tue if it was necessary to close schools to conserve the fuel later in the week.

With that being said, at least the gov made an executive decision instead of waffling like many politicians! :approve:

i dont know about the state keeping a weeks worth of diesel. it dosnt take ice on the road for school to be canceled in fitzgerald. Roughly 60 percent of the roads in fitzgerald/ ben hill county are dirty, back when ivan or charlie swept up through georgia class was called off due to the fact that most of those roads turn to mush when we have a strong sustained rain.

well i am not going to say anything bad about perdue, in case in the next week they start vetting me for a job.

I like Perdue as well btw. My driver license even has his sig on it :approve:

@ eric

I understand the political landscape of georgia(I live there). Personally/Politically I like purdue, he's a good guy, But see Georgia is last in SAT scores. Georgia's educational system is pathetic. Purdue knows this.

What I don't understand is why he choose to cut schools instead of something else(which he could of done). He knows the school system here has a HUGE red mark on georgia, he knows that cutting school wouldn't help the situation(if he had choosen to cut something else). Yes he was in a bind(time wise) and had to make a decision but I believe it was the wrong one.

those 2 gas lines aren't the only way georgia gets its gas. that did have some effect on the jump in gas, but the increase was caused by ourselves more than the hurricane. The people of georgia caused that shortage which drove prices up.

Purdue could of effectively cut other sources of governmental dieseal gas usage so that kids could make it home, but i'm confused on one of your points: the whole dems going crazy if gas goes $3+

If the government ran out of dieseal gas why would that drive the price of "Gasoline" up? Dieseal gasoline? they are two different things.

It's just a smokescreen to take peoples minds off of the flag flap.

I wonder how much bread and milk got bought because schools were closed. You probably need to live in GA to understand this.

If I make any other spelling errors please use one or more of the available letters of the alphabet to correct my mistake. ;-)

Too funny! I understand it! Always thought that the weather people bought stock in Kroger and Publix just before predicting snow!
