Linksys wieless G broadband router complicated setup..need advice

ok people here is the story..i have a high speed internet cable meaning fiber optic..but its not mine its from aneighbour who has an office next dor and he doesnt use it much so he let me plug myself into his office network..but te problem is i just put my lan cable in the offfice router and than just set it on automatic on my pc..so the ip it uses from the router is 192.168.1.10 and 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1
and some dns .....so i just have an internal ip...on my cable...not the one that is shown on whatismyip.com or that u can see here...thats an 80.etc ip....the thing is that this probably means that this ip is not routed to my my pc from the router..nor have i the posibility to do it..cuz he said not to temper with his stuff in the office just get a cable and plug it in..he gives it to me for free so i can't rant adbout that....so basicly how do i setup the linksys wireless router? i tried the automatic stuff settings and the setup from cd but it gets stuck at searching for the internet..meaning the router cannot detect the internet from the cable..although the little green light is working just fine on the router...its probably cuz im trying to parazitate the other network...is this possible...? without having the main ip routed to me? can i somehow set the router from my browser by going to 192.168.1.1 and stuff?..cuz i dont know what to do....as the ip i have in my home is just one from the network....and i dunno how to make another wireless netowork by using it..... any ideeas?

I think the problem is your router and your neighbor's is trying to use the same set of IPs. You could change the default settings so your router uses a different set (say 192.160.0.x) or, if the neighbor's router will allow you to have more IPs, you can disable the router function on yours and just let his assign the IPs to all your equipment (in other words, your router would just function as a switch and access point). That's something you'll need to work out with him.

Which linksys router do you have? Hopefully, it has a few switch ports.

First, disconnect the router from your neighbor's connection. Then connect your PC to your router on one of the switch ports and access the configuration page on http://192.168.1.1. Go look at your wireless settings and make sure they are set the way you want it. Find the section on DHCP server and disable it. Since 192.168.1.1 is conflicting with your neighbor's, change it something else like 192.168.0.1. At this point, you will probably lose connection. Don't worry.

Now connect your neighbor's connection to one of the switch ports (NOT the WAN/Internet port). Make sure you get a light from that connection. I hope your linksys can detect that you are connecting to another switch (your neighbor's) and auto-crossover the connection. If not, perhaps one of the linksys switch ports is marked as being for connecting to another switch.

So at this point, your computer should be on your neighbor's network since you're both on the same switch. So if your neighbor is running dhcp, then your PC should soon get a new ip address from your neighbor and be able to access the internet. And if you correctly configured your wireless settings earlier, then you should be able to connect a wireless device and get an ip address from your neighbor's dhcp server.

As for accessing your router's config page again (http://192.168.0.1), it might work without having to change your ip to 192.168.0.x.

Hope this helps. I *think* it works. :) Perhaps there is an easier way?
