I'm trying to set up ActiveSync to be able to surf the web on my PDA through my PC using Bluetooth (crazy, I know, but it's an excercise in learning connectivity). I've gone through the well described steps from Ted's BT Guide however when I try to Connect the Axim brings up a telephone modem connection screen, even tho I set the connectivity as a LAN connection (I have a cable modem connection most of the time). This should be easy but for me nothing related to computer networking is easy.

Why do you need to set up ActiveSync? You should either be able to directly set up the modem to work for dialup or data (e.g., GPRS), depending on what you cell phone plan allows. Tell us a bit more about your setup.

This is one of O'Reilly Network tips for PPCs (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wire...etpc_tips.html) - accessing the internet on your PDA via BT equipped PC (say you don't have a PDA - wireless capability). My BT PC is connected to the internet via Ethernet cable to LAN to cable access. As you can see I don't want dialup access when I have cable. "ActiveSync is listening to a particular serial port (that the BT adapter is using as a serial port)"
My main problem is that when I start ActiveSyn on the Axim I get the dialup connection "logon to server" and that defeats the purpose of the exercise.
