Brand New Axim X51v ... Cannot Connect To Internet

I just received my Axim X51v and cannot connect to the internet.

My Axim will detect several wireless connections however, it won't connect to any of them I select. The wireless connections are OPEN (example: coffee shop / resturaunt).

Is there anyone that can help me out, or point me to a post that will help solve my problem??

Are you using Wifi or Bluetooth or having problems with both? Are you tring to connect to your home computer or a Wifi hotspot with your Axim? If home computer, please share you setup and hardware. Also, what does your Axim say when it won't connect, Thanks.

I am using WIFI when trying to connect to the internet. I am trying to connect to both a WIFI hotspot and my computer at home.

When attempting to connect to a WIFI hotspot, it will detect all WIFI connections. It will show the WIFI hotspots as 'AVAILABLE'. When trying to connect, it shows 'CONNECTING' and will not connect to the available WIFI connection.

At home, my wireless network is setup using a Linksys router. Here are my settings:

WIRELESS NETWORK MODE: mixed
WIRELESS SSID BROADCAST: disable
SECURITY MODE: wpa2 personal
WPA Algorithms: tkip+aes
PERMIT ONLY: permit only pc's listed to access the wireless network

Thanks for the updated help. Please let me know if you need additional info regarding my wireless network.

Since you have doubts based on the hotspots, the best thing for you to try is to temporarily take all the security off your home router to make sure the wireless on the Axim can connect:

Enable SSID broadcast
Disable WPA
Allow all connections

If it works, add them each back one at a time until it 'breaks.'

I followed these suggestions:

Enable SSID broadcast
Disable WPA
Allow all connections

I was able to connect to my wireless network...but I still cannot browse the internet using my Axim X51v. Any ideas why I cannot browse the internet?? In the status box it shows: CONNECTED TO NETWORK. However, when I check the list of wireless networks, it shows the SSID and the word "CONNECTING".

Any additional help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

How's the signal quality?

Is the router also set to provide an additional IP?

Do you have the Power save mode disabled in the WLAN utility?

The signal quality is good....there are not any problems with it.

I'm not sure if the router is set to provide an additional IP. When I check my AXIM settings, I do have two boxes that can be checked. Right now, I have "USE SERVER-ASSIGNED IP ADDRESS" and it gives an IP address.

I do have the power save mode disabled in the WLAN utiltiy.

Thanks to everyone for the continued support. :)

So you are getting a valid IP number? Do you have "My Work Network" selected in both dropdown list in the settings and is "This network connects to the Internet" selected on the "Proxy Settings" page when you selct Edit... under either of those dropdown lists?

My server assigned IP address is similar to this: ff08:206:3dffdz:ff80

This kind of IP address doesn't seem right...does it?

I did not have "MY WORK NETWORK" or "THIS NETWORK CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET" selected. I made the changes.

I still cannot connect to the internet for browsing.

Thanks for continuing with the support. :)

That's an IPv6 number. I don't know for sure, but I don't think it's actually supported by WM5.0 although I've seen them show up on PPCs with earlier OS versions. It seems like when the PPC gets one, it usually does not work but I've never figured out a sure fire way to get rid of it. Of course, it may be self assigned (like the 169. IPv4 numbers) because your Axim is still not getting a valid number from your router because you are not really connected, yet.

I have a Linksys WRT54GS router. I have AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION - DHCP selected. For DHCP server, I have DISABLED selected.

Right now, I have my router set at 192.168.1.xxx, my desktop PC set at 192.168.1.xxx and my laptop set at 192.168.1.xxx. They all are working and I never had DHCP enabled when I set it up. I can browse the internet and access files from each computer.

I did add the Axim MAC address to the list of permitted PC's however, I currently have that disabled to try and figure out why I cannot browse the internet.

UPDATE....it now shows 'CONNECTED' under the 'CONFIGURE WIRELESS NETWORKS'....but still not access to the internet. When trying to access a web page.....it seems to search...but I get a message that it was unable to find the selected page (web site).

Thanks for the continued support. I appreciate the troubleshooting help!

Well, for some reason, I was able to connect to the internet assigning an IP address similar to: 192-168.1.xxx. I also entered the SUBNET MASK and DEFAULT GATEWAY I used for the PC and Laptop. I entered the DNS & ALT DNS name servers.

I then started building the 'wall' back up. I made sure the exact MAC address for the AXIM was entered in the 'ALLOW PC's TO ACCESS WIRELESS NETWORK'.

I was still able to connect to the internet.

I then selected WIRELESS SECURITY and setup the following:
SECURITY MODE: WPA2 PERSONAL
WPA ALGORITHMS: TKIP+AES
WPA SHARED KEY: 31 letters / numbers

I was not able to connect to the internet after completing this setting, nor connect to my wireless network.

In the AXIM settings, I have the following options:

CONFIGURE NETWORK AUTHENTICATION

Authentication Options: OPEN / SHARED / WPA / WPA-PSK
Data Encryption Options: WEP / TKIP

I have it configured using WPA-PSK and TKIP. I've entered the exact same 31 letter / number passkey for my network.

I want to have my wireless network as secure as possible, but also want to be able to have my AXIM access my network and browse the internet. Any ideas?? Do I need to set my WIRELESS NETWORK SECURITY to something else?? WPA??

Thanks for the continued support.

I'm not understanding that first sentence. The "AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION - DHCP selected" is so you get an IP from your ISP, but having the "DHCP server DISABLED" means your router is not assigning IPs. If that's the case, why haven't you entered a static IP in the Axim (also in the 192.168.1.xxx set)?
