Has anyone been able to connect a Dell Axim running Windows Mobile 5 to a router containing special characters?

I have a Dell Axim X51v running WM5. I am able to connect it to my home router that has the name "refri", broadcasts it signal, and uses 128-bit WEP.

They can't get it to connect to the wireless routers at my work. At work, they do not broadcast the SSID and the SSID is named "$ecure$". The networking person tried broadcasting the SSID and it still did not work. The networking person also broadcast a name that didn't have special characters and it actually worked that way. They are able to connect Dell Axims that are running Windows Mobile 2003SE. They suggest I downgrade the OS. I'm new to Windows Mobile devices (a Palm user since the start) and have spent a month getting things how I like them so I don't want to downgrade the OS.

Can anyone shed light on the best way to get this to work? I read the Wireless How-To guide and found it very helpful and informative. Thank you very much for any advice.

Well what I can tell you is that you CANT downgrade the X51 series.

Thank you very much for the advice about not being able to downgrade the X51 series. If the networking people suggest it again, I will be able to tell them that it isn't possible. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it.
