wireless security cameras and my X30

On another yet another jag to geekify my home, I have begun thinking about installing cameras in several rooms of my house and overlooking the front and back yards. I have two very young children and could use a way to monitor them from other areas of the house. Here's what I would like:
  • tiny cameras that are almost invisible and can be wall- or ceiling-mounted
  • wireless connectivity through my Netgear WGR614 router
  • multiple cameras supported (up to a half-dozen?)
  • can be monitored on my Windows XP desktop OR my Axim X30H

I know that this runs a little beyond Axims specifically, but I'm sure that someone out there has done this already. Manufacturers, item numbers, websites, etc. appreciated. Thanks!

What I would do is to get camaras that have a web interface. Build a web server for your home, and then use IE to login to the site and watch the video. I've only done this for desktop computers, never done it with a Axim before. You may run into problems since most of these require Java, or some other plug-in to work. I don't know if you can get that for a PPC.

Good Luck, and let me know how it goes. It would be cool!!

A lot of wireless LAN security cameras now offer web interfaces. I haven't had first-hand experience with any of them, so I'm not sure what type of client they require in terms of the web browser.

If its a Java-based application, then you might try NetFront browser on your Axim. I'm pretty sure they still offer a time-limited demo version that you could try out once you get a camera, before spending money on the software in case it doesn't work.

I did a quick Google search and found this site http://www.radiolabs.com/products/wi...ess-camera.php
It appears it would be possible. However it also appears the cameras are expensive.

Thanks for your replies. I did a little searching on my own as well. It appears that these aren't quite as cheap yet as I had hoped. Oh well, another entry for the "dream list."

You could always run a camera to a ''website'' (actually an IP address I believe) and access it via a connection to the internet. Those PC cameras can be purchased pretty reasonably. Not sure how secure you could make it. Maybe you could run it through the https: folder on the server.

receiving camera broadcasts on AXIM!!!

While in college, I setup security cameras outside my apartment and connected them to my server via USB-video capture device.

Download Microsoft's "Encoder" and select video source to "broadcast video to internet url". (video broadcasts onto selected URL...)

Open "Microsoft Media Player" on your AXIM and click - Open URL.
Type preselected video broadcast URL.

That's it!!! You can watch your car, apt, house, boat from your AXIM under the same wireless router range.

Dave :)

I know that D-Link has Many Network cameras on their website. The basic camera is $119 I believe, and to go wireless is about $140? I wanted to get a few of those for my car, just so when Im in school, I would know if somebody was doing anything to my car while i was in class
