Oops, just check to see if the one with extra ports has an uplink port. If not, you may have to buy/make a crossover cable.

Yes, that would be the obvious way to go, wouldnt' it? Sigh. But I have to keep using the existing one. Strange company policy roomate needs to follow. Firewall issue, may be? Roomate insists she needs that to access company VPN.

You need to make the choice of wired with netcards in the PC or WiFi clients. Netcards are $10 each. Some WiFi cards are getting pretty damn cheap now as well but mose USB/PCI cards are still running $60 or so. Keep in mind internet access via WiFi is plenty fast. Moving LOTS of data via WiFi is slowwww...

I use the wired for moving data and all desktop PCs are wired. WiFi is slow for may moving a hundred MP3s. I organize my MP3s on one PC (data 'server'), and move them to the PC with the burner and taada..

I prefer the hybrid, WiFi for convienance (Axim and notebook for internet access) and wired for brute strength and speed. Hell, you can even wake up other PCs in the house via wired ethernet!

Is the 2.4GHz 11Mbps Wireless Router with 4 Port Switch WiFi (802.11b) compatable? I assume it is because it is the same speedsettings, but the site doesn't say. Anyone know how long that deal is going on? I don't have anything wireless currently, but I might pick one up in anticipation.

EDIT: I see now, Valid From: 5/8/03 Valid To: 5/15/03

I saw that earlier but thought it was only for one day, 5/9.

It doesn't say much about it at all. If you can go to instore and check it out, check for WEP 128 capabilites, range and other features. Compare it to other devices sitting next to it. It looked VERY intresting but I got my setup already :)

Worth looking into at least.

My 2 cents

I tried the wireless access point and it was mroe trouble than it was worth. I also got the CompUSA wireless router with the internet discount (register with CompUSA for these extra deals) and it works gret.It has 4 ports for wired NIC's and it was very simple to set up. I did download the most current firmware.
I fought the access point for a couple of weeks and it is jsut not worth it. In my opion that is.

By the way the VPN is a real issue because the CompUSA router will not allow VPN with the particular set up of my company...but that is mnor for me.
