WLAN does not support MAC filtering ?

I'm not asking a question.... I just want to share some findings with you.

All along, I've been using Odyessy Client for one reason - I can't get WLAN Utility to connect to my SMC AP.

Recently I found out this. The WLAN Utility will not connect if I've set MAC Filtering on. It will connect with no SSID Broadcast as well as WEP, but not MAC Filtering.

I also found out that Odyssey Client is not able to get a dynamic IP from my SMC (so I hard coded one.. which makes it troublesome for me when I go to the hotspot). It used to be able to until I upgraded the SMC firmware to "SMC2804WBRP-g-v2.01 (for Part Number 751.7601)". My Part Number is: 751.7603. I didn't know about this until somebody mentioned this is google (I think). However, when I manage to connect via WLAN now, I can get dynamic IP.

So some information for you in case you are in the same boat as me ! THanks.

It's not a problem with the WLAN utility, it's likely to be either a configuration error or some obscure SMC bug (wouldn't be the first for SMC!)

I remember one of their devices did MAC filtering where you told it which MACs to deny, not which to accept.

So you'd need to enter ~2,800,000,000,000,000 entries to allow it to filter out everyone else's MAC and leave yours acceptable... Very nice. They fixed it in a firmware upgrade, but still...

I use the exact same router as you ...no problem with MAC filter or the Odyssey Client whatsoever with my X51V...

my guess is that you screwed it up somehow when you upgraded the firmware using the wrong file for your part ### :(

~~~ reset the router... leave it wide open ... then noted down all your device's MAC address and then go into the MAC filtering section and enable it (click enable) ... down the bottom of the page it let you select each device's currently connected to the router and you need to COPY ONE BY ONE to position (1..2...3 ...etc ..upto 32 devices.) it let you do that with just a click to add one by one ...
well not exact ( as in same router but different part # )
mine is 751.0122 and there is a file for it specifically :)
sems to me there's no difference in filesize of the firmware when I tested out looking for same model but different part # at SMC support section ( download driver/firmware) ... so I would say they are the same firmware ... although you should know that the latest version is 2.08 now .. not v2.01 like you have said ;)
what version of windows are you running ??? I might be able to provide a link to v2.08 if you run into problem hunting it down ;)
you said that your is model 2804WBRP-G ...sure ??? because there's also a 2804WBRP-G-CA as well. also need your version of windows ( XP, XP pro, ...??? etc.)
