I have configured Odyssey to connect to my home network. Appears it allows 104-bit WEP keys. It also allows pasting the 26 digit hex key from the clipboard.
Does the WLAN Utility accept 104-bit keys? I can't seem to get it to work. The dialog box will not accept all 26 characters and stops accepting input after about 20 digits.
Appears the Wi-Fi Companion from Socket uses the same authentication screen from the WLAN utility as I cannot get it to accept the 26 digit key either.
Works now. 27th time is a charm. The only thing different is that I installed the Dell GPS since I last tried. Writing this message using 'block recognizer', (graffiti?)
Just to let others that come across this thread know, even though the entry box only 'shows' 20 characters, it does hold the whole 26 characters for WEP 128 (aka 104). It's just not obvious since the input is masked with asterisks.

Slightly off-topic: It's my understanding that the x50v will accept WPA security settings as welll as WEP. Is there any benefit to using WPA over WEP in order to connect?

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

I would say yes although I've never used WPA because I'm still using my X5 for some things.
Having said this, IMHO, WEP is fine for most home users. Unless you have a 14 yr old kid next door that wants to practice his hacking skills, who's going to bother trying to get into your network when there are so many wide open networks around? As an added precaution, I leave no private data in the shared folders on my PC.
