There have been several posts suggesting the A06 ROM has 'broken' wireless on the X51. I personally have not had any problem but in an effort to diagnose the problem, I'm creating this thread.
I've set up a poll but I'll modify it if a trend develops that is not covered. If you see the need for another choice, rather than voting, post the alternative and I'll alter it so you can post. Please only vote if you are running A06 or tried it and had to revert back.
In my case, I'm running an X51v with A06 on an 802.11b network with WEP, MAC filtering and no broadcast of the SSID. I did not restore from a backup after the ROM upgrade (this was suggested in one thread as a possible reason some people are having problems).
Whether you have problems or not, please post details security in use, attempted use of Odyssey or other wireless software. If you have problems, post these details as well such as slow connection, loses connection, no choice for WPA, etc.

No problems here, although I guess technically I have A05 (since I don't own an X51V) I just reinstalled all my programs from activestink, and it seems to work fine. No problems, altough once it did lock up, but I think that was my fault.

Had a super smooth upgrade to A06. Noted the "zippier" speed increment, but did little to fix previous problems.
Had serious issues with a "broken" Dell WLAN and then reverted back to A04.
Am very happy again. :)
I today re-upgraded back to A06 with all the precautions taken.(A06 Logs has details).
I am glad to say I dont have wifi problems as I did before when I upgraded the first time round. :approve: So yes the Dell WLAN on A06 seems fine. As good as the one on A04.
Please read my post at the 'A06 logs' thread if you want more clarity on this. Thanks :)

Did A06, had battery drain problems (dead overnite), did fake server, still eating battery, but can live with it, not draining very quickly, 8% per nite,
WiFi working really well, haven't used bluetooth at all.
Getting close to carrying the X51v for everyday use, will give it another couple of days.
Take Care,
Locutus

I upgraded to A06 and reinstalled all programs again, taking care not to install too many games and take up all the memory. :)
I have had very little problems with it until yesterday when I reformated my computer and installed a DSL line with wireless access. Now I can't seem to EVER syncronize with ActiveSync (it keeps turning around and "syncing" but nothing ever happens) and now my wireless connects but just gives me a
"The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again."
on every wireless network that I've used before throughout the day (on campus, etc.). I'd be willing to bet that A06 has a broken WIFI.
I recieved a new Dell Axim x51v with ROM version A01. Did update the ROM version to the lastet version A06.
I do think there may be a problem with the WIFI.
I use certificated, and importet the cerfiticate from our local server through the software Odyssey, and afterward stop using the Odyssey client. Insted of the Odyssey client, I want to use WM5 own Wireless setup solution, but this disapeered because of the ROM A06. The reason why I did not want to use the Odyssey client is that it slow down the unit. Anyway I now have to use the Odyssey client, and some time its shows that it is enabled, but are not.
Just to notice you, i use WPA/TKIP with EAP/TLS if that makes any help.
I did notice the batteri did drain very quickly overnight, but I gues it might be the ActiveSync 4.1 thats the reason..
I have an Axim 51v 624. It arrived with A01 and everything worked except for the occasional WSOD ( White Screen of Death) and that it wouldn't turn on occasionally.
The Axim connected to my secure wireless network (Wlan) via my Netgear dg834g modem with the latest firmware. The network has SSID on, MAC address filtering and a 16 digit key shared.
I decided to update the 51vs ROM I did that and after reinstalling all of the applications I tried to connect to my home WLAN network. It failed.
Well, in fact I have determined it is due to the fact the 51v can not obtain an IP address. I can get it connect by specifying an ip address but then it will not get a webpage and drops the connection after a few minutes. PING results are also patching (I am PINGing other computers on the network).
I believe this is a direct result of the ROM update and there is no roll back feature to take it back to the working but buggy A01.
Does any one know if there is a solution to this? I have tried to re-install the ROM various times and also tried A04 (a nightmare very sluggish)
Any word on the next Dell patch for 51v?
Thank you for your help in advance. Sorry for the long - ish post.

2-week old Axim X51v, came with A01, I upgraded to A06. The only WiFi problem I have had is connecting to my really old Siemens 802.11b router. I turned off the WEP to do the initial testing thinking that would make for the easiest connection. No dice. After many tries and spending some time on Dell tech support line (no help) I tried my X51v at a local Panera free hotspot and had no problems at all. It connected easily. Later I went home and re-engaged the WEP (128 bit) on my Siemens and I was able to connect with the X51v (after entering the key, of course). Not sure why it wouldn't work in open mode but not really an issue. That was just a test. My Siemens router is about 5 years old and there hasn't been any firmware updates since 2002 or 2003, so maybe that's the source of the issues at home.
All my apps are installed in my SD, so after the upgrade, I only need to create a ".LNK" for each of my apps to the Program group.
This is mostly Win Mobile 5 (OS) improvement. I 've the A06 upgrade for >3 weeks now. Improvement that I experienced:
1. Registry changes can be implemented instantly; without On/Off or soft reset.
2. No more white screen syndrome: IE displays a Blank Page while it uses an HTTP 1.0 request in a WinInet application.
3. IE & wireless networking/security (SSL, 128-bit encryption): I can do my wireless banking transaction on my X51V now.
4. No need to tweak registry to acescs web sites (bank) that require IE6 or "https". Can visit these sites with original Win CE (IE4) setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent:
Subkey "Version=MSIE 4.01"
5. No more On/Off button that require soft reset.
6. Power up sequence faster, i.e. The Start menu comes on almost instantly.
7. Switching between tasks - almost instant.
8. You can Send/Receive (Messaging) all mails (Exchange Server, your ISP, hotmail) thru WiFi internet on your X51V - a real pda.
9. You can configure Pocket IE (thru Registry) to store INDEX.DAT to the SD card instead of having it on ROM. There are 3 Index.dat files that ''grow'' in your ROM as you browse the internet even if you delete the cookies and the temporary internet files. Check Microsoft article KB322916 (they acknowledged the problem but they don't teach you how to fix it). http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=322916
Over time, your pda will become slow. Check these folders for Index.dat (original 16 KB) in your pda & you'll know what I mean:
\Windows\Profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files
\Windows\Profiles\guest\Cookies
\Windows\Profiles\guest\History
Note: On desktop, these files reside on the harddrive, it's never an issue.
I've never use Odyssey for my X51V WiFi; I deleted Odyssey except the ROM portion. You do not want to have 2 clients ACTIVE on your pda while on WiFi. Imagine what it is like when U have 2 people talking to U when U are trying to talk to someone.
WEP encryption (64-bit) is more than sufficient. The range is too short for someone to snoop. I never have WiFi problem.
I never have to sync. All my emails (hotmail, my ISP, work) go straight onto my pda.
My Axim x51v came in January 06 with A06 installed.
Over the last almost month I've come to the following conclusions:
1. WM5 WPA is broken.
I've tried recent firmware on THREE different MFG access points (Netgear, D-Link and Linksys) and the default WM5 wireless client WILL NOT exchange keys with a access point using WPA-TKIP security. (or ANY WPA for that matter)
However, the client 'almost' works as evidence of seeing the correct SID listed in available accesspoints when the correct key is entered. WM5 will not exchange keys and get a IP address.
2. The Odysey client will sometimes help. (note if the odysey client is enabled, the default WM5 wireless screen is inaccessable)
I've been able to use my x51v/Odysey with a D-Link DI624 but NOT with a Linksys WRT54G (three different types of firmware) or a Netgear 54G.
3. "Airport mode" on/off via switch on side or screen does not take into account the state of the BLUETOOTH radio.
It matters NOT if the BT radio is on/off when AIRPORT mode is DISSABLED. Turning off airport mode turns on BOTH radios. (I think it should only enable the radio it turned off)
4. If the SSID is not being broadcast AND the SSID is not entered into any of the wireless settings, the Axim won't see the access point.

when I first upgraded to A06 I restored from a A04 backup. the wifi when using both odyssey or dell wlan had were no problems at all. the only thing I had to complain about was that backup didn't store my network keys and I had to get them all back from my friends.
then yesterday I caught a symtom that made me do a hard reset. after I resetted I decided not to backup because I thought I can reuse some trial programs (wrong). now I spent the whole day loading in all my files and programs and I JUST found out there were wifi problems on my device...
at my friends house, where I first noticed the problem with wlan, I was able to connect at full bar and use euroAIM, but IE and MSN couldn't connect. then I tried odyssey and finally got them all working. now I'm at home and wlan doesn't work at all, and I can't connect to euroAIM while using odyssey...
such strange problems... I'm going to try for another day and if it doesn't settle down ill try to restore from backup and hope it returns to normal.
Upgraded to A05 (non-VGA model) and did the server fix for the ActiveSync override and all was good,,,till I logged on to my wireless router at home here, and the Internet Explorer doesn't see the connection. It tells me I'm not connected, but the little green logo at the bottom of my today screen says I'm connected and the internet is available.
