Possible solution to the WPA-PSK pain
Beemer,
The problem is really with the D-Link DI-624 Router (It's a piece of junk, but with the wireless bridge I have from D-Link, I am stuck with D-Link and firmware 2.50). I was pulling hair while figuring out the issues. After visiting several forums relating D-Link, and some information from Aximsite.com (Thank you all!), I have decided to give Odyssey Client (comes with x51v) a try. Here are the steps I followed:
1. Unplug the power to the router and leave it off for 6 hours (do that before you go to bed! Don't ask me why 6 hours, but that was the info I got).
2. On you x51v, remove any site setup under WLAN Setting. Then a soft reset.
3. Power up the router after 6 hours.
4. Create a static DHCP for your x51v. (You have already done so from your post). I also set the DHCP lease duration to 1 Day.
5. If you are using MAC address filtering, add the MAC address of the Axim in the router set up as well.
6. Change the SSID on the DI-624 router. (You must do this in order to make this work.). You may re-use the WPA-PSK passphrase. You may disable SSID broadcast.
7. Enable Wireless on the router if it is not already on. (I don't use the fancy "Extended Range" or "Super G" mode. uPnP is also off.)
Time to set up Odyssey in the Axim
8. Open up Odyssey Client.
9. From the bottom menu, select Settings > Configure
10. Select "Add..."
11. Enter the name of the network (The SSID info from your router)
12. Select "Infrastructure", then click "Next"
13. Select "WPA" as the "Association Mode". "TKIP" will be automatically selected as the "Encryption Mode" (For WPA-AES, you will have to get the latest version of Odyssey Client)
14. Uncheck "Authenticate using 802.1X"
15. Enter the WPA Pre-shared key as in the router.
16. Click "Next", then Click "Finish". You should have the Network ID displayed in the Networks window. Click OK at the top right corner to exit.
17. From the bottom menu, select Settings > Security Settings. You may leave the default values in, but I matched the session and trust time with the DHCP lease time as in the router. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong, I am still green regarding Odyssey Client settings). Click OK once you are done here.
18. Click on Settings, then Select "Enable Odyssey".
19. Select the network you set up above, then click the "Connect to" check box.
20. You may get the "Adapter not installed" or something. If such is the case, go to WLAN Utility and "Turn On" the WLAN on your Axim. (Strange enough, sometimes, you do not have to enable the switch this on, i.e. no blinking green light, and your Axim will still connect to your network).
21. Go back to the Odyssey main screen, you should see the Status displayed as "open", the Packets (in/out) will start counting. Once it is stablise, you will also see the double arrows at the top of the Today Desktop (different from regular built in WLAN connection symbol).
Viola, you should now have connections to your router using WPA-PSK encryption. Even if you power off and on your Axim, the PPC will reconnect to the router without any problems. (You should see your router log showing DHCP lease IP address to your Axim). There are occasions your Axim will take a few tries to reconnect automatically...just be patience.
Good luck with the Axim and D-Link DI-624 (piece of junk!)
Let us know if this works for you!
