Avoiding Hotspot Redirect

Hello,

Question here about logging onto hotspots. I've searched the FAQ and related threads here but didn't find anything.

I have an x51v. When I'm at (free) hotspots, I find that sometimes I can't view webpages online except for the hotspot homepage I keep getting redirected to. For example, if I try going to Google, I just get redirected to the hotspot homepage.

There is no credit card info to enter, nothing like that. I am just requested to press "OK" at the bottom of their homepage. (I do, and I am once again redirected to the same homepage.)

I am guessing that the problem is that their homepage is a popup window that is supposed to be open at all times. That would be no problem on a laptop, but PIE has no support for popup windows.

Any solution to this?

Many Thanks
V

AFAIK there is no way around it. They normally do it to ensure that select information (such as terms and conditions) etc. are displayed on your browser before you start surfing. If they're doing it in a non PPC compatible format, which I've seen too now and then, there seems to be no way around it.

Hotspot

Thanks for that - at least a confirmed issue now.

I think I'm going to experiment with alternative browsers. The new Opera is supposed to allow for pop-ups.
