Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining by any means (in fact I'm actually complementing verizon (wow, never thought I'd say that)). The speeds on 1xRTT is very acceptable considering I can watch live TV just about anywhere....

Pirated...

lol

It occurs to me that perhaps the reason that I have a GPRS connection instead of EDGE (on my EDGE capable-Motorola V551) has something to do with the username:

Dialing number: *99***1#
User name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Domain: (leave blank)
Extra dial-string modem commands: +CGDCONT=1, "IP", "WAP.CINGULAR"

Maybe I should just try it with WAP@CINGULAREDGE.COM?

I've been tethering a x51v through a Cingular RaZr for about a year now.

Recently upgraded to the EDGE / 3G capable RaZr v3xx.

While setting up the bluetooth tether link to the new phone I discovered that the x51v Bluetooth Modem settings max out at 115kbps. You'll notice this is in-line with everyone's quoted bandwidth.

Unless there's other modem software for the Axim that allows alternative settings, there's no way to reap the higher bandwidth via EDGE or 3G. Of course, the hardware may be limited to 115kbps regardless.

It seems this thread has some success reaching 1MBbps: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=122247

Ideally it would be nice to have a Bluetooth Networking Service that acts more like a Network Adapter to your phone. Win XP SP2's native bluetooth service actually offers this on a PC but the phone has to have the service too. Of course, the v3xx doesn't.

I have an X50v and a E815 phone on Verizon's network. I have never done a speed test with the PDA frankly because I didn't go looking for a site that would work with the PDA. My laptop is also BT enabled, as long as I get the EVDO lit up on my phone I am pulling down almost 400k using speakeasy.net's test driving up I95 @ 80MPH (yes I was in the passenger seat) On the standard 1x I get somewhere in the 110k range.

I have a very barebone plan at $39 a month, I see the minutes on my plan as "data allowed" and it uses my minutes, I have never got any other charges on my bill, I have been using this for a few months now. It will be nice to have next month when I am spending a week on the beach in the keys.

Either way I am happy to have this setup for emergency net use.

There are a bunch of posts on this over on howards furums.
