WiFi'ed X51v and McAfee's Wireless Home Network Security software

I am using McAfee's software to protect my home WiFi network. It changes the WEP kep periodically to ensure protection, which makes it difficult to consistently access the network with My Axim (I also have Socket's WiFi Companion on my Axim). McAfee's solution is to disable the WEP key rotation feature while using my PDA. Does anyone else have thoughts about this? Thanks.

Hi JMort,

McAfee's changing the WEP code does sound very good concept, and very secure. But then if you have to switch off your WEP Encrytion to utilise your Axim then, to me it defies the object of having a secure network, correct me if I have not understood your Post correctly.

Just a thought, would it not be better if you were to manually change your WEP code on a regular basis, thus you would be able to implement this with your Axim?

Just my two pennies worth.

Unless you think that you are under great risk of being haxed, just keep the WEP the same. Some people dont even bother with any form of WIFI encrytion. Bt change the WEP code manualy every couple of weeks if you must ;-)

LOL mcafee will let people hack in, mcafee is one of the worst companies out there for AV/antispyware/anything protection related

just get rid of mcafee, its USELESS

you want REAL security on your wifi? use WPA, WEP can be cracked in under 20 mins (ive done it my self)

use WPA-PSK (yes this can be hacked but its harder)
the PSK should be at least 20 characters with special+caps
IP filter (not a HIGH security option but its 1 more line to break)
Mac filter (same as above, mac addys can be changed in seconds)
Disable DHCP and assign your own or use static DHCP found on dlink routers
SSID disable (can be found in seconds but again, 1 more line to break)
