Wifi Campus (University)...

When I first enabled the Wifi I got a flasing blue light, but it says to change connections in the settings, wherein I followed the instructions on the forum, and scanned for spots, which are always poor and once in a while normal, even though I am right in front of the wireless device. How can I do a soft reset, to restore the default settings (will this change other settings and files on the ppc). Also how can I setup the ppc to access wifi on my campus and other spots like Starbucks?

PDA: Axim X51v

Not sure how your campus is setup, but my campus requires MAC address authentication. I had to go into the network admin's office and fill out a form with my MAC address, then they added me to the network.

As for Starbucks, the wireless service is provided by T-Mobile Hotspot, and requires an account with them for access. You will need a username and password.

You're enabling the wrong wireless. Wifi (802.11b) should blinks "green" on x51v, not blue. Blue light represents bluetooth, not wifi.

There are two kinds of reset on Pocket PC- Soft-reset and hard-reset. Soft-reset is simply like restarting a PC, it won't affect anything settings or files except the stuff in RAM. Soft-reset button is the little hole on the back of the Axim. BTW, Dell's owner manual provide lots of information that you'll want to read before posting. Hard-reset is like reformatting the file system, which erases EVERYTHING except the OS files in ROM. Hard-reset will restore everything to default factory setting. As for the last part of your question, it really depends on the setup your school and Starbuck are using. It's very likely that wireless networks you're trying to access is locked with some kind of encryption, such as WEB, LEAP, etc. After all, no one is stupid enough to open their networks to hackers and other unauthorized people. You better ask the system administrators regarding the setups than asking it here.
