Can't connect to Network Anymore

Ok, I'm at my wits end.
I'm using the Netgear M701 CF card and Netgear wireless Router. I used to be able to connect and then for some reason I no longer have access. I always get Can't find DNS or some kind of error like that. I have set my connection to Work, Work, Work and Internet, Internet, Internet, and any other combinations in between. I have turned off WEP encryption. I am not broadcasting SSID. I do not restrict IP usage. I can ping 127.0.01 but I can't ping yahoo.
Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks for the link but I don't think I'm having the same problem.
The light on my CF card is a solid green. I can access my Netgear application so I'm sure the CF card is connected. However, when I try to surf it gives me "Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings."
When I ping I can ping 127.0.0.1 but when I ping yahoo I get "DNS server can not be found, please try again."
I'm almost sure my Router is working as I am picking up the connection on my Axim.
I haven't tried entering an IP address but I didn't have to before.
Does anyone know what is going on?

Agent Smith, how did this problem start? Can you sync or file share? Did your firewall settings change recently? Also, what is the significance of the IP address 127.0.0.1?

Hi Gigi,
Don't really know how it started. I just stuck my cf card into my Axim one day and it didn't work.
I did not change any settings that I know of except changing it to work, work, work.
127.0.0.1 I believe is the router address. It's one of two options I can ping when I go into my Netgear application on my Axim.
I can sync but cannot file share. My firewall has not changed.

127.0.0.1 is the local host/loopback address, it's one of the reserved IPs and would not be your router. When you ping it you're just pinging the computer you're pinging from.

Correct. TCP/IP standart reserved 127.0.0.1 as your local loopback address. If you successfully pinging it, it means you have OS TCP/IP stack up and running. But ping to 127.0.0.1 do nothing with Netgear driver and hardware.

Ok, so what does that mean? Sorry, not really familiar with networking. So, should my network be working then? Why can I not access the net and my computer with my Axim?

I've had this same problem, but the cause was linking to another PC other then the first one I hooked it up too. I had to restart the whole OS by taking out both batteries and it finally worked. I called Dell tech support and trying to decipher "their" English I gave up and only connect it to my main PC now. I can't ever connect it to my work PC otherwise I loose my wireless LAN connection settings. I never changed the system settings either. Anyone else have this issue with the Dell WiFi wireless card and the Axim? :rolling:

I have extensive knowledge on home/Business networks, and i'm using the Linksys wireless hub and i'm stuck.

Agent Smith,

I had lots of wifi problems this past week as well, and although they were not exactly the same as yours, I will share my experiences in the hopes that something will "click" inside your mind or the mind of anyone else reading this thread.

:)

Last Sunday, my Ax hard reset itself, so I had to reinstall all my apps, including my wifi stuff. I was able to sync and access the Internet afterwards, but I could not file or printer share. My settings were Work, Work and Work and my router was encrypted and SSID was not broadcasted. I too, was sure the connection was there because of the steady green light on my CF card, and also because of the fact that I could sync and map my network. Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up having to change the name of my Ax (Settings > System > About > Device ID) and everything went back to normal. It seemed that my PC was not recognizing my "new" Ax under its old name, so I had to give it a new identity.

Anyway, have you tried reinstalling your Netgear software? Also, have you been able to map your network (I used resco explorer.)? Or maybe even renaming your Ax?

Hope this helps.

Gigi

I've been kinda smug about all this wireless stuff because mine (X5 and D-Link CDF-660W) has worked flawlessly in spite of my inexperience with networks. Unfortunately, now when I put in the card, I get the old "Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address" error message others have mentioned. The only thing that's changed since the last time I successfully connected wireless-ly is that I set up a full partnership with my PC when synching. Could this have caused the problem? Can I undo that "synching feeling"? I'd sure like to use this thing over Christmas.

Thanks for any help.
