I did this fairly easily with my Axim. On my desktop PC running Win98SE I loaded "M$ file & printer sharing" and then set a folder to be shared. Then using file explorer on the Axim I entered the name of the PC and folder that I wanted and it brought it right up.
I also have xp, and I downloaded the trial for Resco Explorer to map my network. When you do that, it will show you the name(s) of the PC(s) networked to your Ax. Alternatively, you could use Total Commander, which is freeware, but you will have to enter in your PC name manually. (Using Resco Explorer first helped me figure out my PC name so that I could then use Total Commander. I figured that when the Resco trial ends, I'll still be able to access my network files using Total Commander.)
To find our your PC's name using Resco Explorer, do the following:
1. Find the network "tree" (sorry if this is the wrong terminology) for "My Device". This will break down into "My Device" and "My Network'.
2. Tap on "My Network" and hold. Select Map Drive. If your router and wifi card are working properly, it should reveal another window and a heading called "Computers Near Me". Under that should be the name of your PC. I have a Dell PC and my computer name is a mix of letters and numbers.
3. Tap on box (upper right corner of same window) called "Share". You should be able to view your shared files.
No, you don't have to rename your PC (i.e., we are not talking about "Computer Description".) It already has a name (my PC name is a combination of letters and numbers), which is called "Full computer name". This is the one you use.
bizzdev.com 's net use is an excellent tool for file sharing.. after you initially make your connection to the shared resource, a special 'network shortcut' folder is created... the next time you start up your axim, the shortcut to the share is in this folder and simply clicking on the link allows you to browse the resource
